The three of us were sitting around the small motel room table, pretending everything was totally normal. Dean and I were eating the breakfast I had picked up this morning from the local diner, coffees in hand. I kept glancing at Cas and Dean between bites, waiting for someone to break the silence.
"I vote when we get back to the bunker, we have a movie night to cool off. Popcorn and all," I said, looking between them again. "What do you say Dean? Which movie does Cas need to see first?"
Dean looked up at me, a little spark of excitement in his eyes, "Oh man, the list is sooo long... Star Wars? Batman? Dukes of Hazzard? The shining, lord of the rings, Harry Potter, Smokey and the bandit..." he paused, shaking his head and taking another bite. "You'd better decide," he said around a mouthful.
"Cas, have you been able to watch any movies yet?" I addressed him. He tore his gaze from Dean to meet my eyes.
"Not really. I'll watch whatever you pick, Sam." He gave me a small smile and resumed watching Dean. I sighed, fine.
We finished our food and rounded up our things. I brought the key back to the front desk. Cas and Dean loaded the car with our bags and brought it around to meet me. The ride back home was incredibly awkward for me. I tried starting a conversation three different times, but only received grunts and mumbles in return. Ugh, drama queens. Both looked like they were trapped in their own thoughts. Like the drive wasn't boring enough. I rolled my eyes for the millionth time today, letting out another sigh.
"Dean, can we pull over? I want to switch with Cas so I can try and get some decent sleep." I watched his face. He grimaced before covering it quickly.
"Sure Sammy," he said quietly. "That okay Cas?" He met his eyes in the mirror for the first time since last nights events.
"It doesn't matter to me Dean," he responded blandly.
"Awesome," Dean said under his breath, rolling his eyes. "We'll stop at the next gas station, I need some grub anyway."
15 minutes later, Dean pulled into the gas station, filling up the car while we were stopped. We all lumbered out of the Impala, eager to stretch our legs after driving nearly 10 hours. It was long after dark and there was no one else around. "I'm gonna hit the head," I stated, heading around the side of the building. I yanked the door to the bathroom open, rust falling from the hinges. I cringed. Gross. Not having much of a choice, I entered anyway.
I came back around the building when I was done, spotting Cas and Dean at the rear of the Impala. They were standing very close, looking into each other's eyes. Not unusual. I decided to give them another minute or two, heading into the store. I grabbed 2 bags of chips, 2 bottles of water, and an air freshener for the car. 3 grown men in a vehicle for 12 plus hours, calls for an air freshener. I smirked to myself, Dean would like that. I made my way back out to the Impala, passing Dean as he went in to pay for the gas.
"Lovers quarrel?" I asked with a grin. He shot me a glare, not bothering to respond. He probably would have just told me to shut up anyway. I snickered.
I climbed into the backseat, tossing a bag of chips and a bottle into the front seat for Dean, as well as the air freshener. I stretched out as much as I could, balling my jacket up for a pillow. I shut my eyes, immediately falling asleep.
I woke up to the sound of quiet talking in the front seat, the sun already up. I kept my eyes closed and eavesdropped on the conversation happening in front of me with interest.
