Heavy, shaking breaths left Namjoon's drenched muzzle as his paws sank deep into the muddy ground beneath him.He was wary of the clouds rolling darkly above them promising destruction, his ears pressing flat against his head just as a gust of wind blew into him.
The storm was growing stronger by the minute, and he could feel his determination falter with every drop of cold liquid that fell from the sky as he searched the surrounding forest inch by inch.
The shirt gripped loosely between his teeth held only the faintest scent of the missing Omega, having lost much of it's fragrance to the frigid rain that poured down relentlessly.
He knew long ago that this was pointless but he just couldn't bring himself to give up, not when he saw the young Alpha struggling through his pain and dragging his paws through the thick mud, the effort to lift them proving too difficult for his battered body.
Namjoon sighed, creating a translucent cloud in front of his eyes. He promised himself that he would push forward for as long as he was capable, or until the poor boy finally gave out.
He had hopes it wouldn't come to that but by taking in the others state he knew it was inevitable.
Ignoring the worries that riddled his mind he stubbornly turned his nose to the ground, beginning his fruitless search anew.
.
.As the night went on, the water cascading down Namjoon's back had dropped drastically in temperature causing his breathing to become sharp at the cold sensation trailing over his body.
Unsurprisingly, the only smells to fill his nose were the same as when he had first begun, those of death and wet nature.
He was close to whining out of frustration when he felt strange warmth fan across his sopping fur accompanied by the sound of shallow, rasping pants close to his ear.
He shifted his eyes and felt his heart sink as he found the younger had tiredly wondered beside him, their sides nearly brushing as they walked.
Namjoon's steps slowed to a stop as the boy began to lean into him. He turned to nudge the boy with his muzzle but before he could the weight was removed as the large wolf crouched down, gently falling into a lying position.
...
Gargling whines left Jungkook as mud and rock pressed into the wounds adorning his entirety, his weak body being pelted by the icy downpour.
The drops of cold rain feeling like scorching needles burning his flesh as they fell onto him.
He sniffed the air and lifted his head slightly, gazing softly into the worried eyes of Namjoon before stretching just far enough to catch the fabric hanging from the other's mouth.
Grasping the cloth between his teeth he pulled away taking the shirt with him, staining it with blood and earth.
Jungkook took in a few shaky breaths as deep as he could, allowing the gentle, delicate scent to soothe him. He blocked out the splashing of rain forming into large pools around him and felt with sadness as the familiar smell caressed his injuries.
Fighting the tearing feeling in his chest, he attempted to rise to his feet through the quaking of his legs but violent waves of pain kept him grounded with nausea.
His mind turned into a clouded mess of pain and fear when he felt a hand lay on his side stroking his bloodied fur calmly.
His vision blurry, he strained his already spent mind and focused on his surroundings. He could hear someone speaking but was unable to understand, the voice sounding muddled as though he was underwater.
He tried to growl at the other, hoping to scare away the touch, but only succeeded in releasing a pathetic whimper.
The hand paused to rest briefly on his burning chest before parting his fur gently, fingers just barely grazing over the source of his pain.
That light movement was enough to ignite a fire like agony inside him, his head spun as he pushed down the bile rising in his throat.
He could feel as arms wrapped around him painfully and strained to pull him off of the ground. His body was just barely hovering before he found himself lying on the muddy forest floor once again.
...
Namjoon placed Jungkook down, watching helplessly as blood poured out of his side and mixed with the rain.
It seems like trying to lift him hadn't been a good idea as Jungkook was now bleeding profusely from what looked to be a bullet wound.
'How the hell did I not see that before?'
He kicked himself for having looked past the boy's injuries, but how could he try to pull him away from something so important?
'Yugyeom was right, I'm a fucking idiot.'
He shook away any unnecessary thoughts and focused on the task at hand.
How is he going to lug this huge ass wolf to the pack grounds before bleeds out?
He had hardly been able to drag the other when he'd first found him, let alone carry him when he's dead tired and who knows how far from home.
He sighed as he looked down at the boy whimpering in pain and felt his muscles tense with stress.
'Fuuucck.'
He knelt down in front of Jungkook, deciding to try and speak to him since carrying a huge ass wolf in the middle of a rainstorm wasn't exactly an option.
"Hey, Wolfie. Can you hear me?"
Jungkook's vacant eyes lolled over to him, catching the warped sight of a deeply dimpled smile.
Namjoon couldn't help the sigh of relief he let out when the other seemed to respond. 'I hope that's a yes.'
He panicked when Jungkook's eyes slowly began to wonder away from him. "No, no, no. Wait a minute, look at me."
Placing his palms on either side of Jungkook's face he could feel that the boy had a high fever.
"Alright, I know you're hurting but I need you to shift, do you think you can do that for me?"
He was hoping that the boy would be able to shift so he would be light enough to carry but there was no indication that Jungkook had even heard him.
"C'mon, please. We need to get you medical attention, kid. You're dying."
This time Jungkook's eyes traveled shakily to Namjoon's. His dull eyes were full of hurt as he clenched his jaw tightly, the shirt hanging from his teeth.
Namjoon gave him a knowing smile and rubbed behind the younger's ears, cringing when he felt warm blood run over his fingertips. "We will come back, I promise. But I need to get you to someone who can help, if we don't go now you'll die."
There was a long, still moment of silence that was broken by Jungkook's pained sigh.
Namjoon perked up at the sound, he could smell Jungkook's fear starting to peek through his scent so he nodded his head gently in reassurance. "You've got this, it's gonna be okay."
Letting his eyes fall shut, Jungkook slowly began his transformation only to yelp loudly as he snapped his eyes back open.
Feeling like he had just tried to rip himself in half he looked to Namjoon for support but found a fiery red stare in place of his once kind gaze.
A strange sensation built inside Jungkook as his wolf was quick to respond to the other's unspoken challenge and before he knew it searing pain had covered him like a blanket.
His head spun with the shattering feeling of his bones changing, muscles aching as if torn apart.
After what seemed an eternity his body finally relaxed and he knew it was over, he did it.
He couldn't feel the pain anymore, his body numb to the world as he closed his tired eyes letting them have their well deserved rest.
