Blaine took a deep breath before entering his second Charms class. He just needed to stay calm.

They were practicing the same charm, so people could get the hang of it. Those who were confident were moving in to lifting heavier objects.

He shut his eyes briefly, exhaling. "Wingardium levisoa."

To his shock, the feather floated gently up off his desk, exactly where he wanted it to be. He moved his wand, the feather following it perfectly.

There was a giant grin on his face. He was doing it. His magic was working.

"You're really good at that, Blaine!" Tina said from beside him.

That just made him even happier. "Thank you!"

By the end of class he'd even managed to lift up his desk, absolutely overjoyed.

His next class was Care of Magical Creatures with the Gryffindors. They were in the Forbidden Forest, and the teacher had set out a carcass of something. He didn't look too closely, unable to stand the amount of blood.

They were told to be quiet and wait. After a few minutes, another Hufflepuff moved over to him.

"What are we looking at?" he whispered.

"I don't know," Blaine whispered back.

But then a Gryffindor jumped, clearly startled. "What the fuck is that?"

Blaine followed his gaze, seeing the darkest horse he'd ever seen. It was a skeleton, blackened skin hanging off of it like lace. It lowered its head, eating from the carcass.

"Shush! You'll scare it off," the teacher reprimanded.

"That doesn't answer my question!"

"Oh!" The boy beside Blaine raised his hand. "This is the thestral lesson, isn't it? Nick told me about it," he said excitedly.

"Yes, it is. Who here has heard of a thestral?"

The majority of the group raised their hands.

"And who can see the thestral?"

The freaked-out Gryffindor raised his hand, but he was the only one. "Really? Nobody else can see this— this thing?"

Blaine didn't raise his hand. He didn't want to be singled out.

"Can anyone tell me why some people can see thestrals and others can't?"

"You have to see someone die to see a thestral," a different Gryffindor answered. "If you've never witnessed death, you can't see them."

"Very good. N—"

A gasp ran through the crowd, and they looked back at the clearing. A unicorn had walked in on their lesson, looking around at them. "Well, it looks like we have a guest. Everyone, this is a unicorn. They are less shy around females, so boys, take a step back."

A Hufflepuff girl closest to the unicorn hesitated, taking a step back. But the unicorn followed her, nudging its head into her hand.

She seemed stunned, petting it gently. "Hello," she said softly, eyes watering.

Her friend nudged her. "The unicorn says you're valid, and unicorns don't lie, so you have to believe it."

The lesson was put on pause as the unicorn walked around, figuring out what they were doing and getting pats from the students.

He was walking to lunch with Tina when they ran into two boys in the hall, one of whom Tina seemed to know. "Kurt! Hi."

He hugged her. "What class are you coming from?"

"Care of Magical Creatures. Oh, this is Blaine, he's in my year," she introduced him. "Blaine, this is Kurt."

Kurt smiled at him. "It's nice to meet you, Blaine."

"You too," he said, the boy's smile making his knees weak.

"Wait, Kurt, are you okay?" Tina asked, frowning, brushing his hair back to show a cut on his forehead.

"Oh, I'm fine," he dismissed. "I just tripped. Nothing serious."

The boy beside Kurt looked over distractedly. "Kurt, I gotta go," he said, half-jogging down the hall, catching up with a Ravenclaw. "Aaron! Wait up!"

They smiled, saying something and wrapping an arm around his waist.

Kurt shook his head fondly. "He's so in love." He turned back to the two. "You were introduced to the trestrals today, yeah?"

Tina nodded. "A unicorn walked in on the lesson, too. We—"

She stopped as Kurt was turned around, a Slytherin kissing him. Blaine's heart sank. But then...

"What was that for?" Kurt asked, raising an eyebrow.

He sighed, looking thoroughly annoyed, leaning against the wall. "This freshman would not leave me alone, I had to do something. Now he's gone, so thank you."

Kurt just looked amused. "You're welcome. Don't do that in front of Elliot, he'll murder you on the spot."

He scoffed. "Why does he care? He's not your boyfriend."

"Neither are you, which is why he'd care."

Blaine went though a rollercoaster of emotions during their conversation, ending up happy at the end, because Kurt was single.

The boy seemed to just then notice them, nodding in greeting before turning back to Kurt. "First practice matches of the season are this weekend. You ready?"

He laughed. "Are you kidding? We've been practicing over the summer. He's not talking any chances this year."

"I'm sure we'll still kick your asses, though."

"Yeah, you wish."
