TO say I was dreading school would be an understatement. It had opened last week but me being me felt I just wasn't ready. Instead, I had been taking shifts at the club even though I didn't need to. I had to bribe Sisi so she doesn't tell on me but that could only work for a while. Definitely not when my mom, her husband and my dad had ears and eyes every fucken where. They threatened to cut me off if I didn't go to school so here was I; driving to school while playing Phora. I was feeling depressed which was what school did to me. Worse, I was a newbie and I mean, who would look up to being the new kid anyway?

My phone rang while I was stuck in traffic and I didn't even care about being late. It was my mother, who should have been sleeping or something instead of checking up on me every second. “Mother” I answered, rolling my eyes before she spoke. I wasn't mad at her or anything but she wasn't giving me time to miss her. I knew she was calling to scream at me and I was too close to blocking her tbh.

“ Why’re you so formal?” she asked sounding rather tired. “ Prepping for school. Wassup?”

“ I wanted to check on my son. Is that a sin?” I could feel her frown which had me feeling slightly bad. I love her too much.

“of course not. Before you ask, I'm stuck in traffic on my way to school,” I said because I knew that was coming. She let out a  giggle that had me smiling. “ I actually wanted to ask if you want a driver or not.”

I sucked my teeth. This woman forgot that I was eighteen and not Blue or his little brother. Man, she probably forgot I've been driving since I was fourteen. “ You stay babying me”

“ You could have said no,” she replied and knowing her, she was rolling her eyes. It was something Hugh hated but she did it anyway. He once mentioned that she did such things when she wanted a rough lay. He'd probably forgotten he was talking about my mother, the memory made me grimace.

“No,” I said and heard her huff before rudely hanging up on me. I only chuckled at that, finally getting a move on the road.

Relying on the GPS is probably what got me late. I mean if I hadn't moved around in circles listening to the robot voice, I would have made it at least an hour instead of two late. The school was huge and an hour or more from my house. It wasn't what I expected from a public school, not that I had an image in mind. There was some security guy at the gate who opened it up for me then I had to explain myself, one thing I fucken hated.

“ So you're new and late?” he repeated like I wasn't making any sense . I talked perfect English, not much corrupted by the previous state. I gave him a duh look and he tried to be intimidating. “ I asked you a question boy.”

“ I made sense,” was my reply which had him smirking.

“ You won't last here with that attitude.”

He further directed me to the principal's office but not without telling me not to park in reserved spaces. Did I listen? Of course not because there was no way I was going to park recklessly.

“ Junior's son, right?” the woman asked with a stern tone, probably also trying to intimidate me. How did she know my father? I mean sure, the man was a famous NBA star but whoever called him Junior had to know him personally. I still nodded. “ Why are you late?”

“ Traffic and I got lost,” I said truthfully. She removed her glass. She seemed to be a bit younger for a principal or maybe she aged well. “ You know you're a week behind, right?” I inwardly rolled my eyes. She was wasting my time.
