the heavens seemed to be cheering for anna and john as they stepped into a relationship, releasing white, fluffy, and bitterly cold snow upon the grounds in liverpool. christmas time was around the corner and anna was planning with holly when they would take the train to each go back to their respective homes.

although john had begged mimi to let anna stay at mendips, she refused every time—mimi hated how much time he was spending with her. holly invited stu to come back home with her to poplar, so he could meet her parents as their relationship was seemingly progressing.

the decade was rolling to a close and as for school, anna had shot up to finish top of her class for the term. john skipped the classes he didn't have with anna and would practice playing and songwriting with paul while anna worked with Brian, who was trying to get anna a job out of college.

holly and anna sat next to each other in their writing class, laughing at the faces john and stu would make from across the room.

"i really need to figure out what i am going to write for this term paper. it's due after holiday." anna ran her fingers through her hair stressfully, ignoring the boys as the class was dismissed. holly looked down at her bag and pulled out the familar envelope, placing it front of anna.

"maybe this'll help." she sighed. anna looked at the letter with shock.

"i threw this away that night."

"i kept it." holly gave a half smile and patted her friend on the back before joining stuart and walking out of the dark lecture hall, a gloomy day outside. anna quickly stuffed the letter in her bag and got up, stacking her books as she felt john's arms wrap around her, swaying back and forth, kissing her neck peckishly.

"oh, john." she giggled as he kissed her sensitive collarbone. "i've got to get to my journalism lecture, professor collins is strict on tardiness." she closed her eyes and felt as her heart yearned to stay with john.

"skip it and come with me to the pub for a drink. ye've earned it." anna sighed and opened her eyes to reality, packing up the rest of her things as he let go. "yer already top of yer class."

"i wish i could--" her eyes caught the handwriting on the front of the envelope before her gaze flickered at the empty room around her. she smiled to john and he took her hand, laughing madly before kissing her cheek. "but i have to make it back for literature!" she laughed as she ran behind him, their hands still entangeld.

the mid december air was dry and brisk through the pores in anna's wool jacket as the couple walked hand in hand down the street to ye cracke, discussing of what the new year may bring. other rockers littered the streets as they themselves had also made the grand decision to skip. the sun was nowhere to be found, tucked soundly behind thick grey clouds that rumbled softly in the distance.

john sat next to anna at the bar and showed her some of his songs, watching her reactions carefully. she beamed as she finished reading them all.

"oh, john! they are brilliant!"

"really? maybe i can play for ye later."
