ONE WEEK LATER

**********************

Julia’s POV

**********************

It had been approximately one week since my time at the hospital and here I was again in my apartment. Gabriel had given me the week off and for once I felt a sense of relief. My sole concern was getting back on my feet and I never felt as assured when I had Gabriel hovering around. When he brought me home from the hospital he sat me down and spoke to me. He blamed himself for what happened and how I landed up in the hospital even though he would not say I could sense that it bothered him a great deal. He promised to take care of everything to ensure that I was ok again. At the time it sounded great but now as he hovered like a pest around me I began to seriously regret my decision. Abel still visited and now I saw him as a really protective friend. Whatever happened he blatantly denied he knew, I never pursued the topic although I was curious I mean who would not be? I sat back on my sofa and switched channels for the tenth time.

I was so bored and even work sounded better than staying home. There was a knock on the door and I looked up. Dragging myself off the couch I got up and headed for the door. On opening it I shook my head. “I told you I’m fine,” I said. Gabriel stood there with two laden bags that I was sure that was either takeout or chocolate cake.  “I just thought I’d stop by,” he said. I nodded, “uh hmm.” He smiled and I moved back. He entered and I followed. He sprawled himself out on the couch and I shook my head. “Don’t you have to get back to the office?” I asked. He snickered. “It’s lunch sweetheart.” I blushed. His growing vocabulary of endearments towards me had been expanding lately.  “I also came…” he continued. My eyes retracted. “Yes,” I said. “The CEO wanted to speak to you once you were in good health and I think you are.” I gulped. “The CEO,” I said. He nodded.  All that came to my mind was….YOU”RE FIRED.  “You Ok?’ Gabe said. I gulped and nodded slowly. “Hey it’s ok It will be alright I’m sure it’s nothing,” he said. I nodded and slumped on the couch near to him.

Julia surveyed herself once more in the mirror before taking a breath. She had chosen to wear a simple knee length black dress with matching flats. A pair of pearl earrings adorned her ears and a twisted pearl rope necklace had embellished her neck. She had worn something familiar to her in the hopes that it would calm her nerves but it did not seem to be working. Gabriel knocked on her door at around six to pick her up and she wondered why on Earth would the CEO want to see her at such a time. She had armed her bag with a small bottle of pepper spray just in case after all she was a woman still recovering and she was vulnerable. She shook away the thought and opened the door. “Mhh hmm,” Gabe said. She blushed and closed the door behind her. “We should go,” she said clutching her purse close. He narrowed his eyes and then smirked. “It’s not funny,” she cried. He threw up his hands and led the way to his car. After seating he drove off. The drive there was the shortest she had ever taken; to her it seemed that they had reached in a matter of seconds.

Gabriel looked at her before speaking. “Hey it’s going to be ok,” he said. “Sure like you would l know you’re not the one going to see the CEO, The damn CEO!” she cried. He shook his head with a smirk and got out before she did too. With a deep breath Julia headed up the stairs with Gabe at her side. “I can do this, I can do this,” she said hoping to convince herself. Gabriel opened the doors and he left her to take the elevator while he waited downstairs. She gulped when he left and made her way in. Everyone knew where the CEO”S office was, the thing was no one really had the cause to visit it. Julia gulped and pressed level 12. The elevator started up and she leaned back into the wall for support. With a rattle it stopped and she stepped out. Her footsteps echoed as she made her way to the door. Its oaken surface seemed to gleam as she looked at it. Her feet froze before it and then she knocked. At first she thought that she had knocked too softly but then a deep voice called out. Her throat became parched as she stood there. Her hands shook as she opened the door.  Her eyes retracted and a small squeal left her lips.
