So I rewatched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.... and damn, what a trip. Watching it as a child I thought, wow what a dreamland... But no, now I realize the true moral behind it. INSTITUTIONALIZED HUMAN EXPLOITATION. yes. you read that correctly. The film about a chocolate factory and children buying chocolate bars to win a golden ticket is not only a narrative on greed and the whole Horatio Alger "rags to riches" idea, but it is also a metaphor for education and institutional corruption. As in, a college degree being glorified as some golden ticket to success, when in reality, it is a mere receipt proving that you went through the trials and tribulations. If you haven't seen the original movie, check it out.. OR better yet, go read the book!! I would love to hear your thoughts on this interpretation.
