The continuous rap at my door brought me back to reality. It had been a few hours since I talked to miss Leyla again and I dreaded the thought of seeing her. I had the worst of ideas conjured in my head waiting to be explored to reality. My heart was thumping into an overdrive and I hadn't been able to concentrate a wink since the incident.
Breath in. Breath out. Its going to be okay.
I signalled for whoever was at the door to come in and I was greeted by an overly excited Anke who had come to fetch me to lunch. I was grateful for the distraction and I almost lost it when miss Leyla sent for her usual strawberries.
Lunch with Anke, Esme and Matt wasn't as appealing as it usually was. My head was occupied with thoughts of someone else in a way that it shouldn't. Everyone noticed my absent mindedness but I was glad no dared to bring it up. I figured they all thought it was the stress of working with the boss. As I walked back to her office with a bowl of strawberries in hand, I stopped midway when I heard weird noise from the other end of the door. I instinctively placed my ear on the door to listen more when it went wide open and I collapsed, the strawberries spilling everywhere. Miss Leyla's boyfriend was inside buttoning his shirt. I cast my eyes to Miss Leyla's embarrassingly and found her hair roughed up and her lips swollen.
I didn't want to imagine what had been happening before I made my mortifying entry. I was angry. No, I was seething in rage. The sight made my stomach churn in an unfriendly way and my fists tightened. I reward the fucker Sean with a hard glare and he smirked in response. Like he knew why I was angry. That irked me the most, I felt like ripping his throat open.
"Are you okay?" Miss Leyla was at my side in minutes. She took my hand and examined it, caressing the soft scratches and blew some air on it like I was a child.
"I'm fine." I jerked my hand away and she frowned.
"You fell Mr Jordan, are you sure you're okay? I could take you to the clinic..."
"I SAID I AM FINE!" I shouted exasperated and pinned her with my glare.
"Hey, look here man, I don't know what you were doing at the door but what the fuck are you doing shouting at my girl!" Sean said connecting his index finger with my chest forcefully.
"Sean, stop!"
"She's not a property you know."
Miss Leyla and I spoke in sync. I don't know why I said it but I hated when men objectified women. It was hypocritical of me since I occasionally did it too but when it came to Leyla I did stuff that I couldn't explain. Like how I was minutes away from dislocating the fucker's jaw.
"You're defending him. This piece of shit was eavesdropping on our session. You know what, I'm glad you did man, did you hear how beautiful her moans were. So sweet, it was just heaven on earth."
The words unnerved me and I found my fist connecting with his jaw and he staggered back in pain.
"One more word and you're dead meat." I growled.
"Guys, get out." Miss Leyla was horrified as she saw the scene unfold before her eyes. I was surprised to see how angry she was. I had never seen her this livid, in the short time that I worked with her. You see the thing with me, I had a short fuse and I hated it when people provoked me. It was one of the many reasons why I joined the army.
Nonetheless I was glad she wasn't just angry with me. She was angry at both of us.
"Now!" She repeated. Both of us stood there watching who would take the first move. I smirked when I saw Sean's nose dripping with blood.
Miss Leyla matched to the door and opened it wide. She was standing there waiting for us to get out. By the outside, people had already gathered watching the entire ordeal. People were talking shamelessly and most of them looked surprised.
"Baby, we can talk this out and solve it like...."
"Sean, get out now!" She had made up her mind by the look of things. The vein on her face was popping and she was tapping her foot impatiently.
Sean resigned trying and matched out dejectedly banging the door on his way out.
"He looks mad." I taunted just to hear what her response would be. She turned to me abruptly and shut me up with her eyes. If she could breath fire, I would be in ashes now.
"You!" She pointed an accusing finger at me. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't fire you this moment."
"Well, I don't sit back and watch when women are objectified. More so, if the woman in question is my boss. If that's an offense in this company then I would gladly resign, no need to waste your energy in firing me." I was counting on the fact that she hadn't liked the way Sean was addressing her. If she decided to fire me, I was screwed. Literally.
"I don't want to see your face today. Just pray to God that by tomorrow my anger would have dissipated.
Phew!
I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized she was letting me keep my job. I must have made quite and impression. I had wanted to say that more so when the woman in question is one I liked but figured I'd be digging my grave deeper.
I threw her an apologetic look and made my way out of her office only to be bombarded by a load of questions by the bystanders. When they saw my bruised fist, they connected the dots. I only brushed past their confused selves and made my way to somewhere quiet to clear my head.
