Knock. Knock. Knock.
Jonah's knuckles lightly tapped against the white door. He had stood in the face of this door many times before. Never had his heart raced so fast before though. He inhaled deeply and braced himself for the love of his life to open the door and probably slap him in the face again. He knew he had no right coming back here. It was for his own selfish reasons that he drove hours to see Felicia again. He had finally come to his senses and realized he couldn't live without her but it was probably too late.
He heard footsteps on the other side of the door and wiped his sweaty palms on his pant legs. This was the moment. The moment that could change everything. His hoping and wondering would be over in just a few seconds.
The door knob rattled and the door creaked open slowly. In its wake was a tall man with dark brown hair and eyes resembling Felicia's.
"Seth?" Jonah asked surprised.
When Seth's eyes landed on Jonah, his body filled with rage and steam poured from his ears. He raised his hand in a fist and pulled it back, aiming at Jonah's face.
"Seth, who's at the door?" a female's voice asked but not the one Jonah was looking for.
Sandra came from around the corner and locked eyes with Jonah. As the fear showed in Jonah's eyes and made his body shake, Sandra too realized that Seth was about to kill him.
She reached for Seth's hand just as he was about to let it rip. She pulled with all her might to restrain her bull headed boyfriend. "Seth, stop!" She tugged at his arm pulling him back farther into the house and stepped between her boyfriend and Jonah. "Felicia's not here," she said knowing what Jonah was after.
"Where is she?" he asked.
"She went to a friends house for the weekend." Sandra let out a sigh as she continued to fight against Seth who was still attempting to get past her. "I don't think you should be here Jonah. You should leave Felicia alone." The look in her eyes was soft but also serious. She meant what she said. Jonah could feel that this was a bad idea too. He understood that Seth and Sandra had probably seen Felicia go through some tough times since he left. Him coming back wasn't just a bad thing for her but for all of them.
Jonah stepped back from the doorway and nodded. "I know." Jonah dropped his head heavily and sighed. "I just need to talk to her." Something in himself couldn't let this go. He needed to see her. He needed to tell her everything that he had felt and realized the past year.
Sandra looked at Seth who had finally seemed to calm down. She gave him a sad look at nodded toward Jonah. Seth shook his head and his eyes bulged out of their sockets. Sandra tilted her head as if saying "Please?" Watching their silent communication made a small smile curl the corner of Jonah's lips.
Seth sighed and looked at Jonah sternly. "I swear if you hurt her I will find you and I will kill you." With each word he had moved a little closer and stuck his finger out toward Jonah until it was poking against his chest. "You hurt her. Don't do it again." He dropped his finger and turned back inside. "She's at Isabella's house."
With that Seth slammed the door separating him from Jonah.
"Isabella's?" Jonah asked with his jaw loose. "Are you sure it was Isabella?" It was pointless asking questions as he could already hear Seth and Sandra walking away.
Jonah ran his fingers through his hair and turned back to his truck. Isabella? He was completely confused. The last time he had heard, they were not friends as she was the girl he cheated on Felicia with. It was the last thing he expected Seth to tell him.
He leaned against his truck and pulled his phone out of his pocket. It was the only thing he had to go off of so maybe Seth was right. Maybe Felicia was with Isabella. Jonah ran through his contacts and landed on Isabella, a number he never thought he would dial again. He sighed heavily before clicking the green phone and began to dial his ex girlfriends number.
The phone rang three times before Isabella answered. "What the hell do you want? You think you can just come crawling back?" Before Jonah could get a word in, she started to spew. "I'm friends with Felicia now so my loyalty lies with her. I'm going to tell her about this and don't you dare call me ever again."
With that said she hung up before Jonah was even able to speak. He rolled his eyes and dialed the number again. So typical.
The phone rang just once before Isabella answered again. "Did you not hear me before. I said-"
"I heard you," he said cutting her off, "but I'm not calling for you. Is Felicia with you?"
"Why do you want to know?" Isabella spat back.
Jonah groaned in annoyance. "Please just answer me. I need to talk to her."
"No, she's not here. She told me she was going away with her brother and Sandra for the weekend," she said.
What?
"You should really stay away from her," Isabella added.
"Everyone keeps telling me that." Jonah leaned his forehead on his hand and massaged his temples.
Then the line went silent.
Jonah shoved his phone back in his pocket and thought. So she lied to both of them about where she was? Why would she do that? His mind started to spiral in a million different directions until it quickly landed on the only logical explanation. She's with a boy.
