In the last chapter Zdrada and Malina had a bit of an argument that led to Malina needing Bryce to calm down the sour demon. Although the girls are still worried about Bryce's safety after his close encounter with the murderer of his last case.
Cerberus were currently outside the house in the driveway of Bryce's house, usually the triple demon would be attempting another one of their pranks, but not today. After hearing how their Master nearly died on his last case, it had the girls worried. While Cerberus was a demon, she was also a dog that means they had the natural desire to protect their Master from danger. The three Cerberus girls were currently by Bryce's car as they opened the passenger side door. "Alright, it's time to put our plan into action!" Cerberus said in unison as they began chanting as a magic circle appeared underneath them.
Bryce pulled into the fenced in parking lot of the police station before grabbing his travel mug and satchel. Bryce locked up his car before heading into the building to start his day. Bryce sat down at his desk that was right next to Philip's as he powered on his monitor before taking a seat. "There you are! I swear the only time I don't beat you somewhere is when there's a corpse involved!" Phil said with a small chuckle as he looked at his partner with a smug grin on his face. "We've been over this Phil, my new housemates have been the reason you keep beating me here everyday." Bryce said in an unamused tone as he shot his partner a sideways glare.
"Whatever you say Romano, when am I gonna meet these housemates of yours anyways?" Phil said as he gave his partner a curious look. "Phil, I value our friendship way to much to introduce you to any of them!" Bryce said as both of them started to laugh at that comment. "That bad huh? Anyway, looks like the guy we caught last week is going away for life. Another job well done, aye partner?" Phil said as he took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. Bryce scrunched up his nose in disgust at the sight of the cigarette as he has to deal with Zdrada everyday at home with her endless smoking.
"Detective Baker, what have I told you about smoking in the station?" Bryce and Phil turned to look at Police Chief Garcia standing behind their chairs. Chief Garcia is a man with a husky build, strong chiseled face, bushy mustache, and stern eyes. "Sorry Chief, my bad." Phil said as he quickly took the cigarette out of his mouth and put it back in the box. "I just wanted to congratulate both of you on another case closed. Also would you two be willing to help me with something?" Chief Garcia asked as he waited for the two detectives to answer him.
Bryce and Phil looked at each other in confusion before turning back towards the Police Chief. "Sure Chief, but what's the problem?" Phil asked as he looked at his boss in confusion. "Apparently three stray dogs are in the parking lot, they keep growling at anyone that tries to get close to them." Chief Garcia explained as Bryce nearly choked on his coffee. "Oh please tell me they didn't!" Bryce thought to himself as he followed Chief Garcia and Phil to the parking lot. Sure enough sitting there in the parking lot were three white German Shepherds with red eyes sitting there in the parking lot.
The three dogs tails started to wag at the sight of Bryce, who was not very happy to see the three dogs. "It appears they have collars on, maybe their lost?" Phil said as he looked at the three dogs. "Their not lost, these are my dogs." Bryce said with an annoyed sigh as both Chief Garcia and Phil gave him a surprised look. "Your dogs Detective Romano? What are they doing here?" Chief Garcia asked as he looked at Bryce with curiosity as he waited for an answer. "Sorry Chief, they tend to be a little disobedient." Bryce said as the Cerberus girls hung their heads in shame at angering Bryce with their actions.
"Come here you three." Bryce said firmly as the three German Shepherds hesitated before slowly walking up to him. Bryce crouched down and patted each of them on the head. Chief Garcia was impressed by how responsive these dogs were to Bryce. "Romano, do these three have training?" Chief Garcia asked as Bryce turned to look at his boss. "What do you mean Chief?" Bryce asked as he noticed that the Chief has his "idea face" on. "What if we made they police dogs? They could be helpful to you and Phil on your cases." Chief Garcia said as Bryce paled slightly at the Chief's words.
Bryce asked Chief Garcia and Phil to give him some time alone with the three dogs to think it over. "Alright Cerberus, change back." Bryce said in an unamused tone as the three dogs transformed back into the three demon girls. "We're sorry Master." Cerberus said in unison as they looked down at their feet. "What were you three thinking following me to work? What if someone shot you because they felt threatened?!" Bryce said angrily as he tries to not go ballistic on the three girls. "W-We're sorry Master! We just wanted to make sure you didn't get hurt again!" Cerberus said in unison as tears formed in the corners of their eyes at Bryce.
Bryce's expression softened as he realized that Cerberus was just worried about the him. Bryce pulled the three into the hug as their tails began to wag. "I'm sorry for getting angry girls. Now do you three wanna help me with my work?" Bryce asked as he felt that Cerberus what she wants to do about that situation. "Really?! You'll let us be apart of the K-9 unit!?" Cerberus said excitedly as they looked at Bryce with hope filled eyes. "Keep in mind it's a lot of work, no time for pranks or games. We are hunting down criminals after all." Bryce said as he thought that this might change their minds.
"We guarded the gates of Hell Master, we can handle sniffing around crime scenes!" Cerberus said in mock offense as they didn't seem slightly deterred from becoming police dogs. "Alright, then let's go tell the Chief we'll put you through the training circuit." Bryce said as Cerberus turned back into their German Shepherd forms. Bryce honestly couldn't begin to imagine how crazy his work life was gonna get with Cerberus by his side, then again they still have to go through the training process before a final decision could be made on whether or not they will become K-9s for his investigations.
Bryce was honestly surprised, Cerberus had not only perform well in the tests they were put through, but they passed with flying colors. From what he could tell sniffing out murder weapons was a breeze, apparently demon dogs can smell sin from miles away. Obstacle courses were just a big playground for them to run through, and Bryce felt bad for the guy wearing the bite suit. "Alright Romano, with another month or so of evaluation, Cer, Ber, and Us should be ready for field work. Honestly I'm surprised you trained them as police dogs." Chief Garcia said as he shook his Detective's hand.
"Thank you sir, honestly I trained them that way because they have a lot of energy. It seemed like a good way to use up their energy." Bryce said as he was now grabbing his satchel and headed out the door with Cerberus following behind him. Once they made it to the car, Bryce folded down the passenger seat as two of the German Shepherds jumped onto the back seat while the third sat on the passenger seat. Bryce drove out of the parking lot and started making his way back home. Cerberus reverted back to their demon bodies as they were grinning ear to ear.
Bryce and Cerberus walked through the front door as everyone looked at them in surprise. "Where were those three?!" Lucifer growled in anger as she glared at Cerberus. Bryce explained how Cerberus followed him to work and how their now working towards becoming K-9s. "Well at least I won't have to deal with them in the morning!" Lucifer said before stomping off back to the kitchen, but Bryce could tell she was proud of them in her own way. "It'll probably be good for them to get out of the house most days. Plus the neighbors don't have to be causing trouble for the neighbors." Justice said as she leaned back in her chair slightly.
Bryce was helping Lucifer make dinner as he took glances at the CEO of Hell. "Bryce, take care of them out there, okay? I know their demons, but they can still be hurt." Lucifer said in a quiet voice that didn't have the usual strength in it. "Don't worry Lucy, I wouldn't let anything bad happen to Cerberus." Bryce said as he gave the girl a smile. Lucifer blushes before quickly focusing back on the task of making dinner. Bryce couldn't help but smile, for as tough as Lucifer made herself out to be, she really did care about everyone in the house. So Cerberus followed Bryce to work and ended up getting a possible new job in the process! I wanted Cerberus to have a more active roll, since they're depicted as hyperactive, so what better way to do that then to make them Police Dogs? Anyway what other crazy antics will Bryce have to deal with while living with the Demon Girls? Find out in the next chapter of Helltaker: Life With Demon Girls!
