Chapter Five

Barrett's POV

Sliding into the driver seat of my car I wait for my three siblings to join me. Another day, but something in me tells me today might be different. I run my hands down my face wishing I had grabbed some coffee from the house as exhaustion falls over me. I stayed up to late thinking.

The car doors shutting startle me. "Let's go," Gardenia's annoying voice echoes from the passenger seat. I snap my eyes over at her, glaring at the brown haired pain in my ass seated beside me.

"You can walk," I grumble at her. She just rolls her eyes at me unfazed and turned up the radio. With a sign I through the vehicle in reverse and head to the school. Grace and Ander are in the back seat chatting while Gardenia is on her phone. Sometimes I wish I was the only child.

I pull my car into a parking spot in the senior lot. "Get out," I bark at the pests who reside in my car.

"Thanks for the ride," Grace calls as she scurries away. Gardenia just storms away without a second glance.

As I shut my door I look over to find Ander still standing at the car in a t-shirt, skinny jeans, with his baseball bag thrown over his shoulder. "What?" I question. A smile stretches across his face.

"Coach wanted me to ask you if you want to join baseball again?" Ander keeps stride with me as I head towards the entrance.

"Yeah, no," I respond. "Have fun tho," I add and cut down another hallway to my locker. As I near my locker I sigh as I see a tall brunette leaned up against the locker. My locker. Dark red strikes are present in her hair and she had on a black leather jacket, much like my own, accompanied with a white tshirt and black skinny jeans finished with bright red vans.

"Zoey," I greet as I arrive at my locker. She steps to the side allowing me access to my locker.

"Hi cuz," she smiles displaying her shinning white teeth. I pop my locker open. Zoey is my dad's sister's daughter. Her father also is my dad's best friend Jace. Zoey is also one of my closest family members. She has been with me through some serious shit. Zoey also did not have the easiest life with her parents separation and other issues.

"When did you get back?" I ask quizzically. Zoey and her dad went on vaction so she was away for a little bit.

"Last night and mom insisted that I show up to school today. Can we skip?" She requests with a laugh.

"Zoe you just were gone for a week," I say rolling my eyes and she just shrugs.

"So no?" she says with a smile. I just shake my head. She is crazy.

"Go to class, I will see you at lunch," I reply as I pull my book from my locker and shut the door.

Entering my classroom my eyes immediately fall on the blonde mysterious girl Abella. She had her head down hiding her face at the back of the room. I took my seat noticing her present. My stomach twists when a substitute enters the room. I hope he knows not to call her name, I think as I still a glance to the back of the room at the girl. Panic looks to be written all over her face. She must be thinking the same. The substitute teacher gains the class's attention and begins to call roll. I hear my name fall from his lips and I raise my hand. I have my gaze shifting between the teacher at the front of the room and Abella at the back of the room.
