Chapter Seven

Barrett's POV

Waking up, I feel like I am on repeat. Everyday seems to start the same way. I wake up, shower, dress, and go downstairs and to take my bratty siblings to school. Mornings with my family is always the same. My father is always seated at the table eating breakfast, slipping food to the dogs, and chatting with my mother. My mother is always in the kitchen in a business suit, preparing and serving breakfast, and entertaining my father. Ander is typically the first one down their so he can sit across from my father and stuffing his face with food tuning out the rest of the world. Grace usually goes down and helps my mother in the kitchen and entertains my father with conversation. Gardenia is unpredictable usually. She loves being "fashionably late" or she is down there asking mom and dad for things, or complaining about not having a car, and wanting mom to teach her to drive. My father's pained face plays through my head as I remember the look he desperately tries to hide when my siblings and myself ask our mother to teach us or help us with things and not him. I know he tries to hide his pain and push it away. But a the oldest I have had to step up and help in so many ways and I notice sadness and anger he has towards his blindness.

Today, though when satin, I mean Gardenia, catches sight of me entering the kitchen wicked grin appears on her face. I sigh deeply preparing myself for the trouble she is about to start as I push my bag up further on my shoulder. "Morning," I mumble to the family as a grab some bacon. The family replied back.

"Barrett?" Gardenia calls as I shove some bacon in my mouth. "My friends mentioned you weren't in some of your classes yesterday. Where were you?" she questions with a grin. This little brat thinks she is going get me in trouble. When is she going to understand that I do not give a fuck if I am in trouble or mom and dad give me a hard time. I will never understand her fucking issue with me and wanting to cause troubles.

My mother's head snaps up and she looks at me with a questioning glaze and my father's head turns towards the direction my sister's voice. "I was helping a friend. Mind your own fucking business," I reply grabbing a smart water from the fridge. I can feel their eyes following me.

"You don't have friends," Gardenia snorts while my mother simultaneously scolds me for swearing.

"Gardenia, that was rude," my father voice says. I roll my eyes, knowing Gardenia did not care about what our parents said to her. She was almost worse than me. Gardenia does not seem to care about a lot as she is going through the rebellious teenage stage.

I toss the water into my backpack and head to leave the kitchen. "Get your own ride today Garden, let's go Ander, Grace," I bark, not giving a shit about her tantrum she's having this morning. The other two come scurrying behind me as I slip into my car's driver seat. As we drive to school Ander leans up between the seats.

"I cannot believe you just did that... again," Ander reports in amusement. I give the car a sudden increase in gas sending Ander falling back into his seat.

I wish I could say this is the first time I ditched my annoying sister, but it is not. Grace remains silent in the back humming to the radio.

Pulling the car into the parking lot of the school and we all get out. My siblings silently disappear as I begin walking towards the school's entrance. The halls are barely filled. My locker comes into view and I note that Zoey is not present. This is not a strange occurrence as sometimes she gets dropped off a little late. Honestly, she needs a car do she can get herself around. My aunt is being so paranoid though about Zoe driving. I exchange my book out of my locker obtaining my first period class book. Stuffing my books in the book bag I zip it and hike it up on my shoulder.
