Chapter Eight
Barrett's POV
Staring at the options in the cafeteria of what food am I going to consume today. Same options every day. My fellow students are making their selections and scurrying off to their friend groups.
A sudden pain radiates through the back of my head making groan escape me. "Fuck," I swear reaching up and grabbing the back of my head. My eyes fall on the shorter frame of my least favorite sibling. "What the fuck Garden?" I scowl at the petite brunette before me.
"That's for leaving me at the house you dick!" Gardenia roars folding her thin arms across her chest.
"Maybe you shouldn't have been such a..." before I can finish my sentence an arm slips around my arm giving it a little tug. My browned and red head cousin is at my side.
"Gardenia! Sorry for interrupting but I am here to still your brother and share our chic-fil-a," Zoey chirps, tugging me away from my sibling. My arm in one hand and a white and red bag full of food in the other.
Zoey tugs me through the crowds of people and out of the cafeteria to the football field's bleachers. Her hand releases me and I follow her up to the top of the bleachers. She plops down sitting the chic-fil-a beside her. I sit on the other side as she begins separating our foods.
"So where have you been?" she questions as she hands me a large fry.
I look at her quizzically. "What do you mean? I've been right here," I answer as I toss a fry into my mouth.
Pain radiates through my arm and I glare at the culprit of the punch. "What Zoey?" I groan as I grab another fry.
"Don't what Zoey me! You have been randomly disappearing and there is a pep in your step. Who is she?" Zoey accuses as she takes a bite of her children nuggets.
My heart jumps. For a brief second, the image of her blonde hair and angelic face flashed through my mind. God, I don't want to tell Zoey about my new possible friend. "Nothing, there is no one. I'm enjoying single life," I state pulling out my chicken sandwich. Zoe gaze hardens at me.
"Really? Barrett, I haven't heard any girls lately whispering about your extracurricular activities," Zoey shoots me a knowing look. I stare at he blankly. When was the last time I had sex? Has it been a few weeks? Well shit, now that I think about it. Fuck. I mean I was not a man whore, but I got my needs taken care of. I had been so busy trying to help Abella I never had the urge to have sex with my meaningless partners.
"No clue what you are talking about," I say as I shrug my shoulders with a smirk as I continue to eat my sandwich.
"Sure, you don't. I'm going to find our sooner or later," Zoey threatens with a pointed stare. Then she shakes her head and a shit eat grin forms on her face. "So guess who texted me?" She chirps and I groan.
"Who? Deacon?" I ask with a smirk mentioning her ex who I was not the biggest fan of. I think he might be in juvie right now, but still had to ask.
The glare I received would strike fear into anyone. "No, dickhead. It was Rosemary," she said with a smirk.
"That's cool, I don't care," I reply tossing my trash into the bag and pulling my phone out of my pocket. I quickly unlock it and pull up my recent text messages clicking on Abella's name.
