"Yes. And it's going to be the end of you once and for all. Do you know how disappointed I was when I saw you down in the Netherworld years ago? I always wished I could've ended you then, but I couldn't. Until now. Now let the girl sleep and prepare your goodbye."
I woke up abruptly, sitting up. My room was dark and cold. I looked around for Delia, but she was no where in the room. I felt a panic attack taking over. I felt scared, wondering where everyone was.
"Beetlejuice??" I called out, but he didn't appear. "Beetlejuice!!" I called out a little louder and he appeared suddenly.
"Don't say it again! Are you okay?" I collapsed onto him, sobbing into his shoulder. "What's wrong?" He rubbed my back, letting me cry.
I felt overwhelmed and scared. My chest hurt as I breathed heavily. My head was hurting and my throat began to dry up as my tears came uncontrollably.
"I don't know what's wrong. I feel so overwhelmed and angry. I'm still confused as to why you have to leave. Why can't you tell me? Help me find a solution the keep you here. I want to go home. I can't handle the pressure of everything. You were my comfort and you're leaving? Things didn't work out with Adam. And ev-" I paused and took a deep breath. Choking slightly on my tears.
"Calm down, okay? Take your time." He rubbed my back soothingly.
"Will saying your name three times keep you here?" I mumbled, my head aching from my breakdown.
"(Y/N), that's not how it works. It won't keep me here and it could be dangerous. You don't know what you're risking if you say my name." He sounded hesitant, like he wanted me to say his name but was warning me against it. I sighed and glanced at the clock, smiling softly.
"Uhm... It's nearly 7, we have to get ready." I pulled away, looking at the ground. However, BJ took my face gently in his hands, wiping my tears away with his thumb.
A fluttery feeling erupted in my stomach and warmth ran through my body. I could feel myself blushing, which caused BJ to smile softly. He glanced down to my lips and back up to my eyes. It felt like seconds were going by as minutes when he began to lean closer.
Suddenly a cold feeling ran through my body, which caused me to pull away. "Uh. Let's get ready, yeah?" I stood up and walked to my dresser, grabbing a pair of clean, comfy clothes. I glanced at him before walking into the bathroom, the look of pain and sadness on his face broke my heart but I didn't turn back.
About 30 minutes later, BJ, Laf and I arrived at the Waffle House. We joked how we'd call it the Waffle Home due to the amount of times we've been there. My smile faded almost immediately when I saw Adam sitting at the table with Barbara. It's not that I have anything against her, because I don't. But we haven't told her about BJ. Adam knows but she doesn't.
"Barbara, hey!" I greeted awkwardly but she didn't seem to notice. She looked at me and smiled brightly.
"Hey, (Y/N) nice to see you again. Bonjour, Lafayette." She smiled at him. He bowed his head cordially.
"Bonjour."
"I hope you don't mind, I brought Barbara along." Adam said quietly.
"We don't mind at all. Welcome to the family." I smiled when Barbara thanked me excitedly. I turned to look at BJ, but he was gone. I looked around frantically, getting the other's attention.
"Are you okay, (Y/N)?" Barbara looked at me with concern. I exhaled, smiling softly.
"I'm fine. Sorry, I just thought I heard someone call my name." I lied, sitting next to Laf. I looked at him, my smile faltering a bit. He noticed BJ was gone too, but didn't say anything.
We ordered our usuals and carried on with the night. However, once I returned to my dorm BJ was no where in sight. However, Delia was on the phone with Charles. She was giggling like a little girl, literally twirling her hair around her finger. I smirked and shook my head.
I have no classes tomorrow, so I argued with myself on whether I should shower at night or when I woke up. I ended up just laying down and staring at the ceiling. I had completely tuned out Delia's conversation until I heard her finally hang up the phone. She laid back with a sigh.
"You've fallen head over heels. Are you okay?" We laughed then fell into a comfortable silence, laying and staring at the ceiling on our own beds.
"Is it too early to say I'm in love?" Delia asked suddenly, a hint of anxiety in her voice.
"Of course not. Just be careful. I don't want you getting hurt. Charles is a good guy, I trust him, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the power to break your heart."
"You make love sound scary but... It's true. The last relationship I was in was horrible. I was verbally abused and cheated on. Can you blame me for being afraid of commitment?"
"Of course not. But if you want a relationship to last, you have to commit. A healthy relationship has a lot of arguments and flaws, but you and your partner get through it. It's all about trust, love and respect. Good looks and a good personality are just a bonus."
I hear Delia chuckle softly. "Goodnight, (Y/N)." I heard her whisper before the light of her lamp faded softly.
"Goodnight."
I stared at the ceiling as my eyes grew heavy and I fell asleep. But the dream took over again. It was like sleep paralysis. A night terror. A lucid dream. It gave me anxiety, causing me to panic and cry. I was aware I was dreaming, but I couldn't wake up. I called out for BJ in my dream. A dark void with a small, bright green light lay ahead of me, drawing me closer no matter how much I resisted. The words sounded through my head. Like the echo of a curse of the lines in a tragic poem.
'Yes. And it's going to be the end of you once and for all.'
"Beetlejuice."
'Do you know how disappointed I was when I saw you down in the Netherworld years ago?'
"Beetlejuice."
'I always wished I could've ended you then, but I couldn't. Until now.'
"Beetlejuice."
'Now let the girl sleep and prepare your goodbye.'
I woke up in a cold sweat. But the sight before me wished I had just kept dreaming.
