It was a chilly Saturday morning, and Ren was currently buying groceries for the rest of the week. Her mother had gone to Tokyo for work again so it was up to her to manage the kitchen and pantry. Her father helped with the laundry and cleaning of the common living area, while she cleaned her own room as well as the kitchen, and that's how they always managed their home when her mother would be travelling for work.
Since both her parents had been working adults way before they met each other and eventually got married, so they had always helped each other with the chores. It was one of the many reasons she was grateful to be born to them.
"Responsibilities for family are not allotted according to gender, Renny. Everyone's a part of this house, so it's up to us to take care of it and make it a home instead."
She smiled as she remembered what her mother had drilled into her since her childhood.
"I feel like you were born to be in-charge and take up responsibilities, Ren-chan."
She stiffened at the very surprising trail of thought that her mind had picked up. Why would she think about Miya Atsumu? She sighed and paid the total bill, while chucking the items into her grocery bag. She sighed again as her thoughts drifted back to her blonde classmate.
Since she had been elected, and was given the position of Treasurer, the changes in his behaviour towards her had been most perceptible.
No. Maybe even before that.
But what really stuck her were some of his gestures that often sent her heart into spasmodic flutterings.
Or maybe it was the diaphragm, who knows?
Although he had always stared hard at her during classes, and more so when they talked to each other, his eyes had recently developed this incredible power of holding her gaze, into probably would be deemed as infinity. His gaze seemed to bore deep into her eyes, anchoring themselves into the depths of her soul and shook her from within when his words reached those very pits, carrying that reverberating baritone.
It especially unnerved her every time he uttered anything to her that made her feel as if she started hovering over the ground, even if what he said was something completely useless and nonsensical. What was up with that voice?
She carries the grocery bag in one hand, and drank her vending machine coffee can with the other, while walking out of the store. She was about to turn around the corner, in the direction of her house, when on the opposite side of her corner, a vision rooted her to the spot, zapping her right through the spinal cord.
From a certain distance away from where she stood, were two almost identical figures jogging their way towards her. The sun glinting off their blonde and deep grey hair, left no doubt in her mind as to who they were, even though the rest of their features were still not clear.
They wore nearly identical running gear as well. Their built was almost the same, even though their running form was slightly different from each other. One of them had a better balance overall, and the other was more likely to lose unnecessary stamina if he lost his form.
As they jogged closer to her, she was struck by how stunning they looked. She always knew they were both handsome, but this sight was something completely different from how she had seen them in school. Do they look like when they finish practicing volleyball everyday? Heaving chests, beads of sweat framing their faces, their quadriceps and calves curling with every step that they took, it was a sight to behold, and Ren was enjoying the visual delight that the Miya Twins were.
Sure, she did check out the lads back in her middle school when the boy's soccer team trained with girls at time, but these towering statures cut quite the figure, that came with all that jumping and stretching that gave them incredible flexibility and agility. Such grace in their movements!
The grey haired one was the first to break out in a smile and shouted at her from across the road, "Ren-chan!"
The blonde one's face contorted in confusion, as if just registering the fact that she stood right in from of them, and then he broke out into a handsome smirk of his own.
So much concentration, wow!
"Hey boys. Happy weekend! Are you doing cardio training by yourself?"
"Yea. We just were just doing some road run. How about you?" asked Osamu.
"Running errands. I might run later in the evening, though."
"I'll join you," said Atsumu quickly before anyone could say anything about that. She stared at his abruptness, before nodding in agreement.
"Yea, I'll pass. Once in a day is enough for me," drawled Osamu.
"You can actually do it twice a day Osamu, if you maintained your form better. Right now, you're just losing excess energy for no reason," she said.
"Oh? How do you mean?" asked Osamu, curiosity shining in his eyes.
"It's your form. Keep it balanced in proper form at all times, and maintain that equilibrium. Excess movements with hands will only drain you faster."
"Ah. Oh well, let me quickly get some vitamin water. 'Tsumu you need any?"
"Yea, just the ones with all the electrolytes," Atsumu replied, as Osamu jogged into the convenience store that she had momentarily left.
"So. How about my form, Ren-chan?" asked Atsumu, with a straight face, but she was quite sure that a smirk was about to spill any minute. She decided to be honest and let him know how his form was.
"Currently, it seems to be well balanced, at least from the front view. You need to align you spine appropriately too and not hunch more than necessary, otherwise your shoulder and neck muscles will tire sooner," she said.
She didn't realise when, but during this explanation, her gaze has drifted to his chest and was now unconsciously stuck to them. He still heaving quite a bit, and the overall movements were way too distracting for anyone.
"Hey Ren-chan! Congrats again on being the treasurer, but I think you're taking your job too seriously," said Atsumu, as a devious smirk crept on his face.
She knew, from personal experience, that nothing good would happen when that smirk appeared on his face. However, she couldn't help but ask why he thought so.
His smirk further widened as he leaned down to meet her at eye level. He opened those lips slightly, which she suddenly found to be the most interesting thingies on planet earth, and she watched them move as he said, "Well, Miss Treasurer, you look as if you're hunting for some kind of a treasure. 'Cos you seem to be diggin' my chest."
Oh.
