Song: Stand by Me - SHINee
--------------------------
The second week at Black Jackals went by in a breeze, and for that she reminded herself to go thank the gods at the Horikoshi Shrine. If she was being truly honest with herself, it had probably been on her list of places to see when she first moved to Osaka. But now, thanks to Atsumu (in a way), she had another strong reason to visit the shrine soon.
Funny how Atsumu thought they were on a date though, because Ren had other reasons to go. She surprised herself even more when she did not dissuade that notion and correct Atsumu.
She was truly here to show her gratitude as he didn't do anything that would create an issue for her at work. But a part of her, wasn't averse to the idea of this being a date....
*flashback to yesterday*
It was Oliver who was passionately discussing volleyball with Ren as she furiously jotted points in her handy notepad, nodding along and smiling at what he was saying. His heavy accent was making it sound all the more interesting, and Ren made a mental note to have the foreigners on their team show a snippet of their personal lives in the upcoming campaigns, especially childhood stories and other personal anecdotes.
But little did she know that all her plans to spend the weekend pondering over their next big promotions campaign would be thrown out of the window, when a certain blonde setter (who seemed slightly bristled at her friendly companion) would walk over to her.
"Ren-chan, d'ya wanna hang out tomorrow?"
The sound of balls dribbling around them drowned out most of the shocked gasp she let out as her back was still facing him, but they also served her the few precious moments she needed to school her face back to normalcy, before turning fully to him.
"Uhm, sure. I don't mind, but I have plans to go to the shrine tomorrow."
Please find that plan boring....
"Oh ya! Have you been to Horikoshi Shrine yet? It's gorgeous, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the ambience there too! I'll come along with you and we can do something after that?" He said excitedly, a shining smile gracing his face.
Ugh...
"Uhm yea, sounds fine. I'll see you at the exit for the temple at the Jennoji Station?"
"Yup. 10:00 am?"
"10:00 am it will be..."
*flashback ends*
And now, here she was at the shrine, truly feeling the calm descend upon her as her senses were doused in the smell of incense carried by the cool morning breeze that caressed her most softly, with the sound of rustling trees outside the quiet shrine, that rendered as the most beautiful companion music.
Thank you for saving my job! Thank you for making Atsumu as sensible as possible. He could be better, but I'm grateful for the progress so far. And I hope you continue to watch over me...
She opened her eyes from her short sincere prayer to find him looking at her intently, a small smile nestled comfortably on his face.
"You prayed?"
His gaze probably unnerved her a little, but she pushed it to the back of her mind since things had been quite calm between them so far.
"I didn't."
Eh?
"Why?"
"I have everything that I want... For now... And when I'll want something more, I'll ask then..."
The smile that he then flashed her permeated ever cell in her body, sending warm sensations and tingles all over.
Oh, how I miss feeling this wanted by him...
They walked out of the shrine in quiet companionship, with Ren trailing after him as she observed him (and her own feelings about him) from the back.
His blonde puff of hair glinted occasionally as the stray streaks of sunlight flickered on his hair, making him seem even more larger than life than he usually seemed. His form that was also bathed in the streaks of warm light, which made the feeling of being in his presence, just the two of them, seem even more surreal to her.
He hasn't changed at all... All these years, even though he seemed more mature, and his current built was even more suitable for smashing down opponents on the court, he still looked like he hadn't changed.
If I was to describe what an ideal boyfriend would look like, I'd always say he'd look like you...
"Hey Ren-chan, you wanna-."
He paused when he caught her staring at him.
But she didn't avert her eyes. She didn't want to...
Being held in one place by his gaze, was something she could definitely get used to, as that was the only thing between them that remotely resembled any spiritual connection. Everything else about them seemed to be the case of the attraction of their bodies and their minds.
Time slowed a bit, if not stood still, as an invisible thread wrapped around them. In her mind, she imagined a red thread around their ring fingers.
The rational part of her wanted to shake away that dangerous errant thought, but she was so fully steeped in his feelings and the delicious reactions they caused in her, she didn't not want to indulge in that fantasy a little longer.
And in those quiet moments, she forgot completely about the errant hair tickling her collar bone as the hold of his gaze made her focus on nothing but him and the images of wonderful fantasies that glided around her mind.
"Ren-chan?"
She was pulled out of her reverie with the sound of him calling out her name.
"Yea?"
"Wanna come home for some ramen?"
Oh...

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
A/N: I would like to indulge in some ramen myself...
