Chapter 4: Talking

Farkle's POV

I walk out of chess club, feeling pleased. Today I got another A (from a test) and I beat everyone else in our chess games today. I'm heading to my locker when Riley runs down the hall, crying.

"Lady," I say.

"Farkle," she replies, sighing.

"Why so down, did you eat rocks for breakfast this morning?" I joke. "Heh!"

She doesn't reply, but she does sit down next to me. "What's wrong?" I ask. Riley's usually so positive, so "smiley riley". What could have brought her down this much?

"It's Lucas," she says, swallowing her tears. 

"What did he do?" I question. 

"Well," she sighs, "He... and Maya..." 

"They kissed?" I ask, my eyes getting bigger. That's my woman! Well, one of them! 

"No! Or at least, I hope not," she replies.

"Then what happened?" I ask.

"He said he liked her, and I know she likes him too!" Riley cries, and bursts into tears again.

I put my arm around her. "It's okay Riley. I know how you feel."

"What do you mean?" she asks.

"Well, you like Lucas. Apparently Maya does too. I've loved you both since we were little, but you guys never liked me!"" I reply.

"Oh, Farkle," she says, "I'm so sorry. About... everything."

"It's okay, Riley," I say. "I want you to be happy." 

She smiles. I do too. 

I reach over and take her hand.
