Matty arrived at eight o'clock, an hour late, to pick me up.
He knocked on the door and I sighed, getting up from the bottom step of the stairs and walking over, feeling incredibly guilty for going to a party with a guy when I already had a boyfriend, but Matty and I were just friends, there was nothing between us.
"Hi," He grinned at me when i opened the door. "Sorry I'm so late."
I shrugged my shoulders, grabbing my coat from the bannister and pushing my arms through the sleeves.
"It's fine, I wouldn't have been ready by seven anyway." I shrugged again and he smirked at me.
-
"You look nice." He commented as he began to drive to wherever the house was.
"Thanks, but I've got a boyfriend." I said, laughing quietly.
"I wasn't making a move or anything, I was just making a friendly remark." He looked over to me and smirked.
"Eyes on the road." I laughed.
After about half an hour, we ended up what looked like an abandoned warehouse.
"You're not going to like, tie me up and attack me with an axe, are you?" I asked warily, looking at the building. I grinned at him.
He shrugged.
"Maybe." He winked at me. I rolled my eyes as we got out of the car and walked across the over-grown field towards the warehouse.
I could hear the loud music coming from the building, it sounded like it was live. People were everywhere, I began to feel slightly ill.
He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer to him.
"It'll be fine." He told me.
I looked down at my brown ankle boots and plain black leggings that didn't go with my dark green tartan skirt at all.
All of the other girls were wearing much nicer clothes, making me feel incredibly inferior and plain.
"You look fine." He said.
I felt like he had somehow wriggled his way into my mind and began picking through all of my private thoughts.
I frowned.
"Did I say that out loud?" I asked. Just making sure.
"Yeah." He chuckled softly.
His voice was lovely and relaxing, unlike Ben's, whose was always slightly on edge, I guessed that was perfect for me.
I dragged my hands through my hair and sighed softly.
"I feel bad..." I muttered as we walked through the doors.
"Why?" He asked me, almost sounding uninterested as his eyes began to cling to a girl standing by the door wearing a knee lengh, 50s style floral print dress. She had thick, flowing blonde hair and large, almost coin shaped eyes. She was holidng what looked like a martini in one hand and a joint in the other.
"I left Olivia with mum again."
"She should let you live a little though." He said.
"She can barely move from her bed, Matty. I can't leave a child with her."
"Julie, she's not a child, she's her child."
I sighed, but nodded my head in agreement.
"I suppose so..." I said under my breath, wanting to disappear as a couple of Matty's friends approached him. One of them had a soft looknig face with short blonde dreads, and the other had brown hair and a bit of a beard.
"Julie, this is George, and this is Ross." Matty said to me.
"Hi." We all said to each other in unison.
"Are you... with Matty?" Ross asked me. I shook my head quickly.
"No, no we're just friends." I said, laughing awkwardly.
God, I thought. This is going to be grand.
