The day was over but our fight was just getting started. I came home to a silent wife who managed to avoid me while being in the same room and sharing one small bed.
Still, I tried my level best to advertise my apology in the form of flowers which I purposely kept on her side of the table.
I didn't get the response I was hoping for. Imeeshi ignored the posy of violet flowers before laying down and turned her back to me. I sighed. It was not how it was supposed to be. This was our honeymoon period. It was all my fault.
So, I decided to tell her. My prophecy. Because there was no other choice. She turned slowly.
"Thank you," she whispered after a while.
Tentatively, I reached for her hand and enclosed it in mine. She was still rigid but at least she was giving me attention. After a few moments, she too divulged her prophecy to me.
I frowned. We were both lost in thought, our minds working on solving each other's prophecy.
"Do you think prophecies are told with the intention to be solved?" She asked.
I frowned, "What do you mean?"
"Have you ever been able to solve prophecies before?"
I thought about it and came to a conclusion, "Dissecting it to its literal meaning is easy but we have never been able to prevent the danger."
"Then what's the use?" She sat up.
"You ran away from me so many times. Yet here you are! Married and sleeping beside me. What was it's use?" I teased.
She huffed and threw a pillow at me. I tackled her and kissed her silly.
"I have called Master Clue for help," she announced.
I stopped the trail of kisses down her neck and asked, "Why?"
"Because he's marked. And I know him. And I want him to help me."
I looked at her, internally cursing myself for not thinking this ahead. Because I knew she would call him and I also knew, despite me ordering him to stay away from Imeeshi, the Master would arrive at the first mention of his name. He just couldn't help himself. His direct challenges were crossing limits.
It was ridiculous that I was even considering her decision but I couldn't forbid her. I would just have to remain present when that old man was anywhere near my wife.
I resumed my kisses and hummed.
"Are you okay with it?" She asked nervously.
I hummed again. She pushed at my chest, "Answer me."
I tilted my head, "Whatever you think is right, my wife. I trust you."
Her eyes widened and she hugged me tightly. I laughed at her enthusiasm. I was happy that she was smiling again.

Before walking to my office, I took a detour and arrived at Mishi's which was currently under renovation. I asked her last night why she chose the floor below me?
She said she wanted to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the top floor. But I knew. She didn't want to be seen as rivaling for my position. Generally, the queens took active hosting duties which were a prerequisite to any diplomatic meeting.
I knew the subtle shift in powers and the consequent powerplay. And that is why I knew that Imeeshi was not vying for equal ruling rights even though she could always influence my decisions.
"When will it be finished?" I asked the planner.
He inclined his head and replied, "In a week, my king"
"Do it in four. You've my permission to work nights," I ordered him and made way to my office.
I was surprised to see Master Clue waiting in my office.
"I was told you were coming next week," I sat down and gestured for him to take a seat.
"Yes, I am coming next week as well. Imeeshi asked me to help her out. I don't know what she needs help with yet. But today, I've come to meet you."
"And what is this meeting about, Clue?" I asked tightly.
He took a paper out of his bag and presented it to me, "I saw royal postings today. You're in need of a curator. I'd like to apply."
"Then apply. Nobody is stopping you. But you already have your treasuries. How are you going to manage this?"
"I'm willing to forego those for this," Clue replied.
I raised my brow. He was willing to forego his treasure for my treasure. That's what was happening here.
"Now that would be stupid. You can never reapply for the treasury once you leave it. I hope you know that." I wanted to make sure he remembered the rules.
He nodded, "I've been called many things but never stupid, my King. I guess it's a part of the struggle to become a curator then."
I grinned at his comeback, "Real struggle will begin after you become a curator, Clue. Right now you're just one of many. My recruiter will let you know if you've made it or not."
I dismissed him and turned to the file in front of me.
"Of course! Send my regards to Imeeshi." He left.
My blood turned cold at his passive provocation and insinuation. I worried for Imeeshi for she was too naive for this clever man. I needed to decapitate this enemy who was hiding in plain sight. I couldn't let him think that it was okay to pursue what was mine.
"You're too soft on this guy, Fizayer," Constel warned.
And I agreed.
