Calmone entered my office with a worried face.
"What is it?" I asked while reclining in my chair.
He closed the door and sat down in front of me. He fidgeted for a while. I leaned my elbows on the table and inclined my head.
"You're worried?" I asked.
He pursed his lips and nodded.
I waited but his lips were sealed. "Why don't you tell me what's on your mind," I tried.
"I can't," He replied tightly.
I stood and leaned my ass on the desk. "You can't or you don't want to?"
I raised my brow. He nodded, shook his head, and nodded again.
Constel activated and replied, "First day for two people today."
I frowned and thought, "Imeeshi and?"
"Ask the champion."
I straightened up.
"Do you want to tell me something, Calmone?" I asked him again.
"I can't," he repeated.
I sighed. "You can't tell because it would interfere with your champion status?"
His eyes narrowed at my ear and replied, "Right" before leaving the room.
The whole thing was strange. My mind went to Imeeshi. Looked like she used her champion on her first day. That meant she didn't even consider telling me whatever it was.
I felt betrayed. Although the queen had a total right to use her champion still it was a hard gulp to swallow.
I worried too. What must have been so important that she chose a champion over me?
I decided to hunt her down and coax whatever secrets she carried. I was sure she would relent to me sooner rather than later.

I found her roaming the lower hallways. The guards kept an eye on her from afar while mine directly followed me everywhere. Our combined footsteps alerted her and she turned.
She looked stunning in a long light green dress. Her long tresses flirted in the air and her icy blue eyes narrowed on my approach. She was delectable, ready to be served on a silver platter for me.
But before I could open her clothes, I needed to open her heart so that she required less of her champion and more of me, her mate.
I stopped in front of her. My guards waiting a few feet away. Lightly kissing her upturned face, I looked into her eyes that were brimming with questions and worries. I wanted to put them to rest.
"How's your day going?" I asked softly while sliding my hand at the small of her back and nudged her to move with me.
"It's..... busy," she replied.
"I hope you're not worrying yourself silly," I reprimanded softly.
"It's tough to not feel overwhelmed by all the duties I'm suddenly supposed to perform like somehow I'm conditioned to. Still, I feel like I would learn them in no time," she assured me.
I was proud of her quiet strength. I expected her to be a crying mess but she was holding up really nice.
But she didn't come to me with her secret. And that bothered me. A lot.
"You will. I have no doubt. Did you learn anything new?" I asked subtly.
She avoided my eyes. As we rounded the corner, I ordered my guards to stay back. I opened the first door I saw. There were a few shocked maids who I dismissed immediately. I pulled Imeeshi inside by the elbow and backed her to the wall.
She widened her eyes, "What are you doing?"
"You tell me, what are you doing?"
"What? I'm just giving myself a tour of this tower which you should have," she complained.
"Do you want to tell me anything?" I asked boldly.
She widened her eyes, "I don't know what you're talking about."
I pursed my lips and continued to stare her down.
She returned my stare first nervously then unwaveringly.
"I know you called your champion today," I stopped beating around the bush.
Her eyes widened again before narrowing, "Did Calmone tell you?"
"Yes," I curtly replied.
"What else did he tell?"
"Nothing."
"Oh."
"What is it that you decided to tell him instead of me?"
"Is it always going to be like this? Whenever I chose my champion, it would always look like I chose Calmone over you."
I bit my tongue in my mouth, "I would like for you to come to me."
She sighed and replied softly, "I do too."
We looked at each other, waiting for the other one to understand.
"Tell me," I coaxed while kissing her cheek.
"I.."
"Yes," I squeezed her shoulder.
"I went into a room that shimmered," she replied.
I pulled back and stared at her face, "You could see it?"
She nodded.
"And you could get into it?"
She nodded again.
"What happened there?"
"The walls gave me a riddle. Like a prophecy."
"Tell me," I ordered.
She remained silent.
"Not before you tell me yours," she narrowed her eyes.
I paused and asked, "Who told you?"
"My Champion."
I pursed my lips.
"You want to tell me why you hid that from me till now Fizayer?"
"What can you possibly do with a prophecy?" I replied without thinking.
I understood the mistake that I had made. She pushed at my chest. I backed away and followed her retreating form with my eyes.
Before leaving, she stopped and replied, "I would solve it, Fizayer. And I would solve mine without you."
With that, she marched outside.
Great! Just great!
The very first day and I managed to belittle her.
