"I thought I told you to stay hidden. You are not safe here."
A familiar voice said hurriedly shoving me down a dark hallway with different doors evenly spaced from one another, each looking eerily similar.Dried bones hanging on the walls were arranged in pairs and crossed over each other to form an X.
A skull sat above with red markings that looked like blood.
From the stench saturating the hallway, it easily could have been blood. The deep hollow meant for the eyes in the dried skull seemed to follow my movement and I couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched.
"Try not to make a sound and don't move."
The same voice leading me said as we got to a door not too far from where we had left. After she did a special knock that echoed all the way down the corridor causing me to cringe, the door creaked open.
"Stay safe in here and only come out when I come back to get you."
The voice broke as the person sobbed softly.I knew the voice. I had a niggling sensation as I tried to match the voice with a face. But I couldn't.
The hallway was too dark for me to even see where I was and who was leading me but I trusted the person.
Who could it possibly be?
Whoever it was turned to give me a hug. Her arms wrapped tightly around me like it would be the last time and I felt the need to reciprocate.
My shirt was getting wet probably from her tears and after a while, I couldn't get her to let go of me.
Her arms were stiff and her muscles seemed to have locked.
Removing my head from the crook of her neck where it had rested, I tried to look at her and get her to stop crying.
Touching the wet patch on my shirt that was dripping lower and most likely staining me, a chill ran down my spine as I brought my hand closer to my face.
Squinting in the dark, I couldn't make out the liquid on my fingers but I knew it was too thick to be tears.
Bringing my fingers to my lips, the metallic taste of blood instead of the salty taste of tears had my stomach lurching as I resisted the urge to throw up.
I tried yanking her away from me with great effort but to no avail.
Feeling around her body, my hands stopped skimming as I found two knives buried deeply into her skin.
One slightly tilted upward was lodged at the back of her throat and found its exit through her mouth.
The other forced to the hilt into her back drilled through her stomach to the outside world.
Running my hand down her stomach, the material of her dress was soaked with blood and a slight prick of my finger against the point of the knife drew blood.
Her body weighed down on me and I was not sure how much longer my legs would hold up. My heart quivered as I tried to force myself not to cry.
Whoever was clinging to me was someone I loved even though I didn't know who.
The weight suddenly dissipated as the body was flung off me and sent flying, coming to a halt as it crashed into the hard wall and fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Torches on the wall began to catch fire and light the corridor as straggly beasts, each emitting a different type of putrid smell approached me in their numbers.
