It was dark out, the only thing lighting their path being the bright street lamps hanging from above. Gerard giggled as him and Frank walked hand in hand down the street, coming back from another one of their dates. This week was probably the happiest Gerard had ever been in a long time.
Soon, they had come across a park that Frank led him into, despite Gerards questioning. There was a large fountain in the middle of the park that Frank brought him in front of and took both of his hands in his. Gerard just giggled "Frank, what are you doing?"
"I have a gift for you." Frank said, drawing out the 'I' a bit longer. He smiled at Gerard excitedly "But, you have to close your eyes."
"Frank-"
"Please?"
Gerard finally gave in and shut his eyes, giggling as he said "Alright, what now?" He heard Frank rummaging through his pockets, and was tempted to peek. But then Frank told him he could open his eyes, and he did.
Frank was still standing in front of him, but was now holding a long black box that he pulled the lid off of and handed to Gerard. He lifted up the silver necklace in awe and eyed the charm that was on the end of it: it was shaped like a rose.
"Do you like it?" Frank asked nervously. Gerard was still staring at the necklace. It was beautiful, absolutely beautiful, just like Frank. It reminded him of how just a couple weeks ago, he had given him that first rose.
Finally, he looked up at him and smiled "I love it. I absolutely love it, thank you so much!" And he hugged Frank, pulling away a bit to press his lips against the others. He felt Frank smile against his lips, and was still smiling when he pulled away "Now let's go back home, I'm freezing."
Gerard held onto his gift tightly and Frank draped his arm around him as they walked. He held him close, seeing their shops just on the corner "So, Thanksgiving is coming up fast. Got any plans?" Frank asked, and Gerard became really nervous at the mention of Thanksgiving. His family was in town with only a week away from the event he dreaded most.
"Kind of. I'm having dinner with my parents and my brother." Gerard desperately wanted to change the topic "Why do you ask?"
He noticed that now, Frank was the one who seemed nervous "Well I don't want to push our relationship too far, since we haven't been together for that long. But I was just wondering if maybe we could have Thanksgiving dinner together with your family and I could meet your parents-"
"No!" Gerard squeaked, but regretted his words as he saw the slight frown on Franks face "I just don't really think that would be the best idea, Frank."
"Can I ask why?"
Gerard bot his lip anxiously, wondering how he should word this "My parents are kind of... Old fashioned, I guess." Frank stared at him with wide eyes "Not that they don't accept my sexuality! It's just that.... well, you know how you have a lot of tattoos?" Frank nodded "Well, they kind of don't really trust people who have tattoos. I'm not really sure why, and I know it sounds stupid and it shouldn't matter that-"
Frank smiled "It's fine, really. Sometimes people are kind of... Intimidated by my tattoos, at first. But once they get to know me, it doesn't really matter if there's ink on my skin. If you don't want me to go, I'm fine with that. But if your parents are the only that's stopping you from inviting me to dinner, then we can work around it. If they approve, great. If they don't, that's fine. I'll still like you all the same." They paused when they got to the front of the tattoo parlor "This is my stop."
"Well maybe I'll see you on Thanksgiving, then." Gerard smiled and leaned in to give him a kiss goodbye, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and pulling him in. When they broke away, Gerard noticed a car in front of the flower shop. A car he very much recognized "Oh god. Frank, they're-"
"Gerard!" A womans voice called to him from the flower shop, and time seemed to slow down. No, fuck no, this couldn't be happening. Gerards own parents just saw him kiss his boyfriend, who very clearly has an abundant number of tattoos. He would lose the flower shop, he would lose Frank, he would lose everything. He just couldn't contain himself, could he? "Gerard, get over here!"
He slowly pulled away from Frank to see his mother glaring at him, his father right next to her with his arms crossed. Gerard sighed "I'm sorry Frank, I have to go." But Frank surprisingly took his hand in his and began to walk towards his parents "Frank, what are you?-"
They had finally made their way to Gerards parents and Frank smiled and stuck out his hand "Hi, I'm Frank." He turned to Gerard, who nodded just slightly, and then turned back to his parents and sucked in a breath "I'm Gerards boyfriend."
Gerard didn't know what kind of reaction to expect, but he definitely didn't expect this one. He saw a quick movement, and heard the harsh slap of his mother hand against Franks face. It was so loud, Gerard could almost feel the blow himself as he saw the red palm print turning slightly redder and saw the tears that pricked Franks eyes "Don't you ever touch my son again, you bastard. You stay far away from us."
"M-Mom, he lives right next door-"
"Did I tell you to talk?" His mother yelled at him, turning her head quickly to face him. Gerard swallowed harshly at his mothers tone, and felt his own tears starting to form. She grabbed his wrist and stormed back inside with her husband, leaving Frank alone with tears running down his cheeks and in incredible pain physically and emotionally. Gerard so badly wanted to comfort him, to tell him it wasn't his fault and that he was just trying to be friendly.
But, of course, that option was already gone out the window.
So.... Haven't updated in a while....
