The morning was a complete hustle for Ivy. She woke up late and then sat wondering about things for about most of the time and didn’t have time to make breakfast too. They both had to leave their home without breakfast.

“I hope my brother eats with Bella.” Ivy commented as she entered her university. Dylan accompanied her everyday no matter what. Everything was going well. The day was the result announcement of the recent writing competition. Ivy was walking towards her classroom when she saw a commotion around the notice board. She broke through the crowd to see the news. It was some kind of list with students name on them; she neared it and saw the title.

“As the page turns team gives their warmest congratulations to the winners of the summer half writing competition.” Ivy mumbled as she read.

Then her eyes went to read the students’ names.

“Evan Roberts… Ivy Chris… Olivia- WHAT ME?!” Ivy suddenly raised her voice as she didn’t remember the students were still standing around her. She double checked the names and then silently went to her classroom not able to believe she actually succeeded at her first try in a new unknown place. To people it might be a small thing, but for her it was her first achievement.

“Hey Soph! I bagged second position in the writing competition. Can you believe?” Ivy muttered to her friend.

“Y.E.A.H YEAAAAHHHHHH. MY FRIEND IS SO TALENTED.” Liam shouted from across the class as he just came after reading her name too. “I want treat.” He said and sat down as if nothing happened.

Soon they were sitting together for lunch. A boy from her class walked towards Ivy and said that, “Hy. You are Ivy right?”

“Yes.”

“Evan called you to meet him during any of the three breaks, he will be in the writing club room. Make sure you meet him today though. He is quite moody.

“Uh um okay?” Ivy said still confused.
Why that jerk wants to meet me? Ivy thought.

“He is the one whom you met here at the time of opening, right?” Liam asked.

“Yeah. I will get going first then.” Ivy said as she slid her coat off her chair and walked away.

Ivy stood in front of the writing club door, reading the ‘As the page turns’ written on the door again and again. She couldn’t comprehend why she felt so nervous. It is because my last two encounters with him were not so good, Ivy thought.

She opened the door slowly and entered the room. She saw him scribbling something on the notepad in front of him while ha his headphones on. She approached him and upon seeing her he removed his headphones and glanced once and quickly went to write again.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“Well you were the one who called me. That boy said that you wanted to meet me.” Ivy said dumbfounded at his behaviour now.

“You are Ivy?!” he was surprised.

“Why? You are surprised?” Ivy asked cocking her eyebrow.

“You were the one who bumped into me on the day one right?”

“So you do remember people?” Ivy said her tone filled with sarcasm. “You didn’t notice me that day?”

“Which day?”

“When I came to submit the application.”

“You know I might have been a bit preoccupied.” Evan said. Ivy waited in silence.

“Ok. Um… I just wanted to appreciate you for the writing competition, you won the second place right… um…” WHY ARE YOU STUTTERING EVAN?! SHIT! He then composed himself.

“You wrote the memories so well Ivy. I was moved in fact. After seeing the title I didn’t think that it would have such a deep meaning.” Evan continued.

“Thank you so much Evan. I am glad you liked it.” Ivy said and smiled.

“I’m deeply moved by your work” Evan said. As he finished his sentence he noticed Ivy’s eyes grow wide. She stared at him as if he had said something that couldn’t be forgiven.

“Ivy? Are you okay?” Evan asked and shook Ivy as he got no response.

Suddenly Ivy shrugged off his hands and hastily walked towards the door exiting the room leaving Evan confused.

Ivy walked away as fast as possible. She couldn’t forget what Evan said. I’m deeply moved by your work, it was ringing in her ears again and again, but this time in Ray’s voice. Ivy knew he wouldn’t come in her life again but he still had that impact on her.

Before she knew the day was over and she walked to over the house. The whole day she worked and walked around like she was programmed. Dylan didn’t come to pick her up from uni too. He might be busy she thought. She rode the bus alone and upon reaching the house she found the front gate slightly open. She grew conscious all of sudden. Sure Dylan was in office that’s why he didn’t come. Then who is here inside?

Ivy was going to call Dylan before she heard a high pitch giggle followed by her brother voice saying, “This is how Ivy is. She is a lil cute sister to me.”

Ivy was so much relieved that she slid down and plopped on the floor. On seeing Ivy enter the house Dylan got up and apologised for not coming to pick her up.

“I’m sorry Ivy. I brought her home because we finished early and she is all alone in her home.”

“It’ okay Dylan. Shall I make something for you both?” Ivy asked and smiled. She was happy or her brother as he now found a genuine friend.

“Ivy go and fresh up. I will make something for us all.” Isabella said holding her hands. Isabella went into the kitchen and started making some light snack for all of them.
Ivy went to her room and the happenings downstairs distracted her for now, and she wanted to be distracted in a way.

After sometime they all gathered up in the living room with some soft drinks and cupcakes which Isabella made. They were talking and enjoying their time together. They watched a comedy movie as they were laughing their lungs out.

Ivy went to kitchen to drink some water. The movie was very funny that she didn’t take her eyes off the TV while in kitchen. But something else tore her eyes away from the show. Dylan was staring at Isabella now and then. But one point his eyes were filled with love for Isabella which was so endearing that Ivy unknowingly smiled knowing that her brother succeeded in finding a true love. She silently went upstairs after drinking water determined not to disturb them as they laughed together.

As soon as she stepped into her room gloominess surrounded her. That’s how she felt; as if the pit of sorrow was engulfing her. She couldn’t erase it off her mind and while thinking se slowly fell asleep.

Evan on the other side couldn’t forget his last encounter with Ivy. He was for sure excited to see the writer but the reaction was unexpected.
I saw fear grow in her eyes, Evan thought.
