Charlotte:
"How the hell am I supposed to fix this?" Aries sniped, scooting farther away from me with a scowl.
"We'll guide you. There's usually a way for fireflies like yourself to pull out the burn. Unless you're not what I think you are, then it might be trickier." Jedrek stated, staring down at us with arms folded from the edge of the bed.
"Fireflies?" I asked incredulously; turning to lay on my back, pulling Damien's arm over my stomach to scoot closer to him.
He chuckled, snagging my pillow as he snaked his other arm under my neck allowing my head to rest on his bicep. I narrowed my eyes at him as he leaned down to kiss my temple, his smile widening when his gaze caught mine.
"Some Shifters can wield fire, or other elements. They're rare, a sign of someone with highborn blood." Mabel supplied softly, swirling the contents of the cup in her hands, she didn't look to be drinking it but it sure smelled delicious. She caught where I was looking and put the cup on the other sideboard, giving me a sheepish look over her shoulder as she did so.
"Highborn? What?" I blinked repeatedly, looking up at a grinning Damien.
"You've got a bit of it too sugar." He said, catching my earlobe between his teeth. "Or at least I assume you do... talking with plants and all."
"How is all that supposed to stop this burn?" The throb in my arm that had settled into a dull ache was now starting to pulse again. Clenching my jaw I turned to observe the woman laying next to us.
"Aries will have to put her hand on the burn and will it away, or something like that." Jedrek looked thoughtful as Ember crawled under his arm and snuggled into his chest. "Might help if Jasper is here too."
"Pft. And he'll do what? Help me?" Aries scoffed, shifting farther away from me. "Our mate bond is locked tighter than a prudes asshole at a pride parade. He's built a wall against me, and anytime I think he's taking down some of the bricks there's an entire wall behind that one."
"Give it time Ari." Damien suggested softly, his warm breath against my temple easing the clenching of my heart. "He's not going to change his attitude overnight."
"Not with out getting his ass kicked first." Roman muttered, glowering at the doors the brothers had disappeared behind.
"The mate bond will lessen the space between you over time. It's only if you guys were to separate like Ariel and Hazel-Rose that there's even a chance of those walls building back up." Damien supplied. Aries looked stricken, eyes widening and lower lip trembling at the possibility.
"I don't think he's going to leave you." I said softly, searching her face and praying the wetness welling in her eyes didn't fall.
"He will. He has before." Aries stated miserably. "Before he went to war... we were on and off again for years."
I didn't know what to say to that. Fortunately Damien did.
"And yet he always came back to you. You heard him earlier, how you've never left, never betrayed him. Just continue being the steadfast and loyal woman you are and he'll come around."
"Not that it's ever going to be easy. He can be a real prick. You know how the mate bond works though, just give it time." Roman stated softly, pulling Mabel even closer in his arms. "I mean, look at how much Charlotte and our fearless leader have improved."
