Song: Man or a monster (feat. Zayde Wolf) by Sam Tinnesz
Charlotte:
A faint beeping noise roused me from my deep slumber. My body feeling like a thousand pounds of lead topped with the pressure of the deep ocean surrounding me on all sides.
My eyes didn't want to open, my body; strange to me; different. A bone-chilling cold in my limbs holding me hostage from emotion.
"Wake up Killian."
What the hell?
I tried to reach through my mate bond, it's presence in my life a safeguard, a tether of sorts keeping me grounded and sane. Only to find nothing, an empty abyss where my link with Damien should be. I fought the panic that threatened to overtake me.
Beep. Beeep. Beep. Beeep. Beep. Beeep.
The sound of a heart monitor speeding up at the mention of his Killian's name nearly has me trembling. I would have screamed had there not been something blocking my way. My mouth is held open by a hard object that I can feel extending down my throat; a wheezing sound nearby in sync with the rise and fall of my chest makes me gag. The air infiltrating my lungs is not my own. I couldn't bring in a breath if I'd tried, the pain in my chest a searing ache.
"Wake up mutt." The male voice I'd heard before now tinted with menace, a deep bass with a sinister undertone as the man spat the last.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
The heart monitor moves at an alarming rate, frantic pulses of the organ it was tracking; unsteady in rhythm.
I tried to move, casting my awareness to my extremities, first at my left pointer finger, willing it to wiggle in the tiniest form. Scared for my life that the man would see, but needing to gain some sort of control of my limbs.
'Charlotte?'
If I had the physical capabilities I would have flinched, screamed, even ran at the sound of Killian's voice invading my brain. As it was my eyes flew open, instantly blinded by the white light shining directly into my eyes. I clenched them shut, willing the white spots floating in my vision to go away.
"Interesting. Who are you?" The voice asked. The menace gone, a sense of bored curiosity to be had.
I tried slitting my eyes to see who the speaker is, coming up short as once again my vision blurred. As if I'd been staring at the sun for any length of time and my vision needed time to repair. Or an even worse thought occurred; it never would no matter how long I waited.
'Don't look!!' Killian's voice rang through my head. 'You need to go back, go back to Damien! You aren't safe here!'
I felt a tug at my awareness, a will that is not my own edging on my consciousness. So familiar yet unknown.
'Killian?'
'Get the fuck out of here Charlotte! The other is coming back!'
My eyes unfocused, pulling back into myself, falling down into a pit before being spat out the other side where I looked up into Damien's livid eyes. The darker amber of his wolf's eyes casting a shadow on his expression that promised pain. Teeth clenched, brows furrowed in anger as he nearly howled.
"Give her back fuckface!" His growl shook me to the core leaving me gasping as his large hands held me up by the shoulders.
"D-Damien?" Eyes wide, I took in my mate, soaking up his presence with my eyes, allowing tears to fall as his expression changed. The bond snapped back into place allowing me to take the breath I'd needed.
