Chapter 8
We've just finish eating dinner, I'm supposed to tell Ali that the dinner is ready but Lenny and Molly stop me they said that just leave her alone for the night, she's going to eat if she's hungry. So I didn't.
I watch Lenny rinse the dishes and Molly put them in the dishwasher.
"You okay Troy?" Molly asked.
"Yeah I'm fine." I said immediately. "I'm going outside."
I stand up, tuck both of my hands into my pocket, walk to the back porch and sit on the swing.
There's still a little light from the sun peeking through the night clouds, the stars coming out one by one replacing the sunlight for the night and with the half moon shining by their sides.
For a few minutes I listen to the birds and watch the ocean waves collide with each other dancing quietly under the stars.
Then I hear the back door open, a few footsteps forming on the deck and the sound of a chains being move. I didn't even bother to look who it was
"Hey Troy do you mind if I join you?" Asks Lenny.
"No."
We stay quiet for the meantime enjoying the view.
"So...er how long have you been staying with Ali, Troy?" Lenny is the first one to talk.
"Umm....probably two and a half months now."
There's a short pause between us but it didn't take long until he break it again.
"You know Alison isn't always like this. She's always happy and we always make fun of each other, maybe the impact is really hard for her this time."
"What do you mean?" I asked curiously. Dying to know what really happen because I can't ask her directly.
"Well her fiancé broke up with her just a day before their wedding because with some other girl so...you know." He explains.
Why would someone do that to Alison, she's sweet, caring, funny, beautiful, and smart, and a good cook, that's what I see on her. That guy doesn't even deserve her to be his wife and he doesn't know how much he meant to Alison.
I play with my hands and remember what happened this morning. How I touch her blushing cheek, on how it felt against my hand, on how soft and smooth it was and it's the first time I touch her.
"So, what did you and Ali does last month?"
I quickly draw out from my thoughts and answer his question.
"Well we really didn't do anything, the first two weeks with her, she barely eat and I guess sleep too cause I always hear he cry every night. She only comes out to her room just to cook for me then she's going back to her room. We barely talk or see each other. Every night I want to knock on her door, asked her what's wrong but I don't what to intrude and I don't know what to say because it's none of my business."
I remember that night I felt really bad for her, and I'm too scared to asked because I don't know how to comfort her make her feel better.
After a few stuff Lenny and I talked about, I say goodnight to him and walk back inside. I quickly walk upstairs and into my room just across Ali's room.
Before I go in to my room, I walk towards her door, I put my hand up, ready to knock but then put it down, maybe she just want to be alone tonight so I just went into my room.
I roll to my left, after a few minutes I roll to my right, then after a few minutes I roll on my stomach. Damn! Why I can't sleep? I'll answer that later.
I look at the digital clock on my bedside table and it says 5:36 a.m. I groan. I decided to get up, make my bed and have a quick shower.
I quickly dress in a red singlet and a black board shorts, and went down stairs.
I went outside and into the beach. It's a little chilli out here. I started jogging through the soft, cold sand beneath my feet, I pass a few people doing the same as I am and great them good morning, and they great me back.
I passed seven houses and decided to come back. I was just walking up the porch step when I heard someone's calling my name.
"...Hey Troy...!" Someone's calling. I don't recognise the voice.
Well there are only three possibilities, it's Molly if not, it's Lenny or Alison, and they're the only people I know that know me.
I turn around to look who it was and it's Alison wearing a blue top bikini and a white towel wrap tightly around her waist, she gather all her hair up in a ponytail, twist it. There are a few drops of water fall from hair and put all of her hair on her right shoulder.
"Hey you're early today." She said with a smile.
"I can't sleep so I took a jog." I can't sleep because I'm worrying about you. Now I answer my own question earlier.
"Oh."
I look at her. She's pretty white for a girl who lives next to the beach.
"C'mon. You don't want to stand here all day, do you?" She chuckle softly.
I just smiled at her, she walk pass me and went inside, I followed behind. She went in the kitchen and grab a glass of water.
"Hey do you want coffee?" I asked taking the kettle from the cabinet.
"Yeah sure. I'm just going to take a shower, I'm sticky." She said, walking out from the kitchen, her footsteps fading away.
I grab two mugs from the drawer and fill it with coffee powder, a little sugar and milk, and fill the rest with hot water.
When Ali came down, wearing a short and a grey oversize t-shirt. She gets her coffee and thank me.
"C'mon!" She said in a hurry.
"Where?" I asked.
She didn't answer. She grab my hand and pulled me out in the back porch, I nearly spilled my coffee but I manage not to. She then let go of my hand and sit on the porch step while I sat beside her.
"What are we doing here?" I asked, taking a sip from my coffee.
"Watch the sunrise silly." She giggles. "I haven't watched it in a long time.
For a while we just sat there watching the sun, slowly rising up toward to the clear blue sky.
The sun is half way up. I look at Ali who is looking at the sun, her eyes beaming with happiness. Small thing like this makes Ali happy. Lenny's right she's not the kind of girl I've been with last month and especially the first two weeks.
I stare at her green eyes, when the sun ray reflect into her eyes, changing it into a warm hazel with a little brown mixing with it.
"You're beautiful." I said out loud and tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear.
She look at me intently and amaze, I wasn't suppose to say it out loud, it's suppose to be just between me and myself, it's my big mouth's fault with the help of my tongue.
"Thanks." She said timidly and blush like someone's put a spoonful of strawberry jam on her cheeks, and look down, playing with her half empty mug.
She's beautiful why would someone don't want her. We continue to watch the sunrise and finish our coffee. We decided to go back inside and found Lenny and Molly making breakfast.
