After 2D dawdled off to watch some television, you finally mustered the courage to emerge from your bed. Even though he seemed quite oblivious, you still felt a puddle of guilt in your stomach for what you dreamt. You wrung your hands as your mind wandered off into all the possible scenarios where he somehow finds out, but you quickly assured yourself that there was no way. It was all just in your head, safely locked away.
With another sigh, this time more optimistic, you stretched your arms above your head and opened your window for some fresh air. As you moved around, you noticed that your sweater was unpleasantly damp. The sweaty fabric clinging to your skin was enough for you to rip it off and toss it to the floor, exposing yourself to the breeze wafting in from outside. The goosebumps erupting all over your body prompted you to swing open your dresser drawer for a fresh, dry tshirt. The remaining pair of ratty gym shorts inside reminded you that your clothes were still downstairs in the laundry room.
You tossed your head back as you grumbled ruefully, cursing the blizzard for trapping all your clothing in public washing machines. You flung yourself face first into your bed to muffle your yelling and avoid drawing the attention for 2D. Unfortunately, this course of action wasn't effective in either.
"(Y/n)?" 2D clucked as he poked his head in through your bedroom door. You dragged your head from your pillows to meet his gaze.
"What?" you said flatly. Although 2D seemed quite eager for conversation before, he said nothing as he stared at you with his inky eyes, eyebrows slightly raised. The only evidence of an attempt to speak was his mouth hanging slightly agape. You narrowed your eyes as you tried to figure out the reason for this reaction, but another breeze quickly brought your attention to your body. You were completely top less. In front of 2D.
You yelped as you slapped your hands over your chest, trying to shield them from his view, but both of you knew that it was too late for that. In the ten seconds you shared gawking at each other, you were certain that several years went by. The only thing that saved you both from this torture staring contest was the screaming of a tea kettle.
"I just wanted to ask if you would like some tea," 2D mumbled, his voice thin as a page from a Bible. Without waiting for your answer, he peeled himself away from the door and dashed down the hall.
You groaned into your hands as soon as he disappeared, now cursing the blizzard for not only trapping your clothes, but for trapping you with this stranger. You collapsed back into your bed and buried your head underneath a pillow, hoping to stay that way forever. Much to your dismay, another phone call cut that "forever" to just a few seconds. You begrudgingly rolled out of your bed and grabbed your phone, not even bothering to hide the apathy in your voice as you answered.
"Hello."
"Hi (y/n)!" greeted your colleague, Jenny, in a a tone that was irritatingly peppy. "Just checking in if everything is alright. You didn't reply to any of my emails yesterday."
"Sorry about that. I lost power-"
"Also, we're having a phone conference today at three. I sent an email about it too, but I wasn't sure if you'd check."
"Yeah, I'll check. I know how to do my job, Jenny."
"Great! So-"
You hung up before she could launch into another long winded summary of the conversation you just had and prepared yourself for another day at work. You scrounged your dresser drawer for something clean to wear and settled on an old long-sleeved shirt before plopping down at your desk.
As you scrolled through your email, you glanced longingly at your bedroom door from your laptop screen a couple of times. You mouth was parched and your stomach was growling. You needed to save your clothes from the laundry room. But you couldn't face 2D after what happened. You knew it was weak to let your embarrassment get the best of you, and you knew that it wasn't as big of a deal as you thought, but at least in your room, you couldn't make a fool out of yourself any further. Your fear of further shame was strong enough to keep you locked in your room for the rest of the work day. Neither hunger nor thirst could break down the barrier of your embarrassment. Not even curiosity as to what the clattering was in the kitchen.
