I stood in the living room, looking out of the window and watching people walk on the sidewalk, trying to focus my new powers.
I was able to focus it on one person's thoughts but eventually, I would get too tired to focus and just hear everyone's.
"What the hell is she doing?" I heard Peter say, or rather think.
I turned around and looked at him.
"Woah,"
"What?" I asked him.
"Your eyes are glowing again, and you're floating."
I looked down at my feet and saw that I was floating a few inches above the ground.
I felt my body become heavier and I fell back down to the ground.
"Tony and Bruce had a drone deliver this." He tossed a small device about the size of a quarter with an Avengers logo on it. "Press the button and put it behind your ear."
I did as he said and felt the small device stick to my skin.
"They said it's supposed to help you focus your powers."
The voices began to fade, even Peters.
I looked back at the window, seeing my reflection and seeing my glowing eyes fade back to normal.
"Don't you have training today? I think you should cancel it." Peter said as I laid on the couch.
"I already asked Gwen to take over."
"I think Gwen is busy today."
I sighed. "I think the only other person who could handle those three is..."
"Lindsay," Peter said.
I laughed. "Yep,"
"I'll call her, you get some rest. I know you've been up all night."
I turned over and grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch as Peter stood.
- 11:42 am
I sat up and looked around the room.
Peter sat on the carpet, against the couch, playing some video games on the TV.
"You ok?" He asked, pausing his game.
"Yeah," I laid back down. "Seems like every few years, some crazy thing has to happen to me."
"Oh, yeah. 17 years old, you get sent to a parallel universe. 22, someone ends up living in your head."
"And 25, I can hear people's thoughts."
"More people in your head."
I groaned. "Could you get me a water?"
He paused his game and went to the kitchen. I sat up and watched him take a bottle out of the fridge.
I held my hand out as he walked over.
Peter stopped and stared as the bottle floated out of his hand and into mine.
"Did..."
I nodded.
"So... not just a telepath, huh?"
"I guess not."
"You are seriously overpowered." Peter jumped over the couch and sat next to me.
"What?"
"You're a telepath, telekinetic, you're strong, fast, smart, agile, you've got great reflexes, you heal quickly, you're a master in karate, judo, kung fu, acrobatics, you can hack, and you speak 8 languages, and you have a staff that affects people's luck. You're Natasha, Tony, Clint, and Wanda, in one person."
"I'm not a billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, expert assassin, archer, or witch."
"Nope, you're the Black Cat."
I rolled my eyes. "The Black Cat is not a telepath."
"Ooh, re-brand."
I laid my head on Peter's lap. "Maybe,"
A bell rang throughout the apartment.
I sat up to let Peter answer the door.
He opened it, and a man holding a pot with stargazer lilies in it.
"Delivery for Elayna Jones,"
Peter looked back at me. I stood up and went over the door.
I stared at the man, hoping to hear his thoughts, why whoever sent these called me by that name.
I took the clipboard and signed for them. I gave the clipboard back and went to the counter while Peter grabbed the pot.
"There's a note," He said as he closed the door.
I looked back at Peter.
"To my Laynie,"
I felt my skin burn as I heard that name, one I hadn't heard since I was 14.
"Do you know who they're from?" He asked as he set it on the counter.
"I have an idea."
Peter took my hand. "Why lilies? You hate lilies."
"They were my favorite when I was a kid."
He nodded as if he understood. "Your favorites now are hydrangeas, right?"
"Yes, Peter."
I looked back at the flowers.
My skin started to cool down but the flowers looked like they were wilting, petals falling onto the counter.
