Confused?

After Aang and I had pulled away (and Sokka was finished giving us his second lecture on "oogies") he lead me to a sofa.

We sat down, and I leaned my head against his shoulder, relaxing against his body. He took my hand in his and gave my head a kiss. The room had returned to its original chatter and no one was paying us anymore attention.

"I can't believe they aren't surprised we're together," Aang began, breaking the comfortable silence between us. "I mean, it was pretty clear I liked you, but how could they know you liked me? No offence Katara, you were really confusing."

"I wasn't that confusing! Men are just stupid. I was the one who initiated the kiss in the cave, remember? And what did you say to me when I did?"

"No! Please don't bring that up!", Aang groaned. I giggled and looked up at him. "It's so embarrassing. I can't believe I said that to you and you still like me! I wouldn't even blame you if you broke up with me now, my flirting was horrendous."

I was laughing loudly now, amused by his embarrassment, and he joined me with a chuckle.

"That was a joke, by the way. Don't break up with me." I laughed louder at this and he squeezed my hand.

"Don't worry, I wasn't planning on. And your flirting wasn't that bad. Those girls at the fire nation school didn't seem to mind it...". Aang re-adjusted himself and now he was facing me with a puzzled expression.

"Katara..."

"I'm just saying they didn't seem think it was horrendous,"

"I wasn't flirting with them? Oh my god, were you jealous?"

"I never said I was jealous ! And don't lie, you were so flirting. Even Sokka noticed, so don't try to deny it.." Aangs face was both amused and confused.

"I can't believe you're jealous right now! Really, with Ongi? I never imagined you would be the jealous type?" He chuckled while he said this, but stopped when he realised I wasn't having as much fun as him.

"Katara, I can honestly say I have never, ever been interested in a girl that wasn't you. I'm laughing because it's so silly to me you would think I was flirting with Ongi! Katara, you're my forever girl,"

"Forever girl!", I laughed. "Wow, I didn't realise the Avatar had such a way with words." He knew exactly what to say to cheer me up. "You're my forever boy, too,"I said in between my laughs, and he beamed at this.

"I have to admit, I like it that you were jealous. It makes me feel like I wasn't crazy. After what happened at the play, I was sure I was imagining any feelings you had towards me.." his smile faded from his face as he relived the memory.

"I'm sorry, Aang. I just.. I was confused... and the war... and I didn't want to loose you..." I trailed off and he pulled me into a hug.

"But, you're not confused anymore?" He was scanning my face, as if he was still unsure about my feelings for him.

"I never was, forever boy," I teased, trying to lighten the conversation up again. I felt him relax when I said this. We returned to our original position, with my head on his shoulder and his hand in mine.

I nuzzled my head deeper into his shoulder and let out a happy sigh. He starting stroking his thumb over my palm.

How could I ever have been confused?
