Today was the day. The day my four best friends would leave me just twenty three days after I met them. I didn't know whether to be happy for them for finally pursuing their dreams or depressed because I would have to spend the rest of summer alone again, back to square one.
"Are you ready to leave?" Melissa said scurrying into the kitchen. I nodded playing with my thumbs.
"You'll see them again babe, it'll be fine"
I raised my head, meeting her eyes. I didn't really expect her to understand. I didn't expect her to understand how much they mean to me. As stupid as that sounds.
"Yeah.. Come on let's go" I mumbled standing up and smoothening out my shirt. She sent a half smile my way and followed me out of the living room. Each step I took a feeling burned further into my stomach. A feeling of loss, a feeling of dread, a feeling of love.
No POV
When you meet a special person for the first time, you know then and there that they've already made an impact on your life. You know they've earned a place in your heart and that the memories of them will live on forever. You hear ken the things they do, small and big. And when it comes to saying goodbye, you don't do it very easily.
That's exactly how Aimi felt as she stood ahead of her four friends before they started a new chapter in their book, but this chapter wouldn't include her. The four boys stared back at the small blonde haired girl their eyes flickering back and forth every so often.
"So" Ashton spoke up first. Michael wasted no time in running forward and attacking his new found best friend in a bear hug. Aimi gladly returned the hug, squeezing him just as tight.
"I'm gonna miss you way too much" Michael mumbled into her hair. Aimi sniffed trying to keep her tears back, but pulled away letting Michael have a few moments with his other friends like Geordie and Cody. She then moved onto Calum who was standing with a tired smile on his face. A smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"For the short amount of time I've known you, you've been a pretty awsome friend. I'm gonna miss you" Calum said pulling her into another hug. Aimi inhaled the scent from his jumper, letting her friend hold her one last time.
Once she finished her goodbyes with Ashton, right after Calum, it was time for Aimi to bid farewell to him.
To Luke.
Luke stood with his hands dug deep into his denim jeans, a grey beanie covered his unruly blonde hair that Aimi loved way too much. He stared at her for a moment inspecting every part of her. She was real, and she was standing right in front of him. She wasn't pixalated on a computer screen, her voice wasn't the only thing about her that was obvious to him, for the last time for a long while, she was standing infront of him. All of her.
"Aims" His voice was soft and fragile. Her bottom lip trembled as she was roughly pulled into his body. Luke closed his eyes and held her as closely and as tightly as he could, he could still feel her shake a little from beneath him. Tears cascaded down her cheeks in little spurts.
"I know you don't love me Aimi. I know you're still a little mixed up on how you feel. I know that a couple months from now you might forget all about me and all our stupid memories and all my stupud analogies about our future but I just want to tell you that I won't"
Aimi laughed a little.
"How could I forget that sharpie arrow heart you drew on my arm with your name in it while I was asleep at the beach? Or that time we had a last minute sleepover and we stayed up all night talking and I was wearing all your clothes? I even wore your underwear..." Aimi rambled making Luke smile. For the short period of time they had together, they made the best of it. They had so many memories they could remind each other by.
"Aimi, I love you. It's such a big word to tell a girl I met like less than a month ago but am I crazy for saying it?"
She shook her head, a smile playing at her lips.
"No Luke. I know you aren't" She whispered weakly back at him. He played with the hem of her shirt by her hips softly. They didn't speak, they just stood still in each others embrace sharing their last few moments together.
"I-I love you too Luke" Aimi spoke, staring up into his eyes, searching for an answer. Luke didn't speak, he just placed his lips on hers gently.
"Flight 302 to London with a linking flight in Dubai, is now boarding"
The tears started to flow freely down her face again.
"Luke" She whispered.
"Come on man, I'm sorry but we have to go" Ashton placed his hand on Luke's shoulder giving Aimi a sympathetic glance.
"I'll call you when I land" Luke mumbled, placing a final kiss on her forehead. Aimi nodded, a numb feeling coming over her.
"Before I go. Take this, but don't open it until before you go to bed, like tonight" He stuttered, handing her a bulky envelope. Her heart fluttered at him as he fumbled over his words.
"Okay" She smiled, still holding onto his hand.
She gave all the boys one last hug and told Michael she'd call him when he landed in London, as well as Luke.
And just like that they were gone through security.
And just like that they walked out of her life.
And just that, Luke broke her heart.
They say when you fall in love there is no feeling quite like it in the world. You mantain the thought that you're life at that very moment has been put at a stand still, and the person you admire the most is the centre of you're attention. You feel bewildered without them. When they're even in the same room as you, you feel incomplete, you feel lost.
Why yes, there is no feeling like love.
No feeling quite like love until you experience heartbreak.
And while Aimi trudged out of the airport with Geordie and Coady by her side, she couldn't have felt more lost, incomplete or bewildered.
