I stared at the book in my hand for a long time. May be I was thinking a lot. Probably overthinking. The things in books were just fictional and I needed to keep it that way. But now, I was dreaming about the dead babies from book. I sighed and threw Beyond Tears in the bin. I didn't want the characters from the book to haunt me ever again.
I shook my head and took a deep breath. It had been three days since I was working under sugar daddy. He was giving me a really hard time. It was getting harder for me to keep up with his demands. Whatever I wrote, he discarded it in one look. I was feeling demotivated. He couldn't appreciate my content but reprimand.
I took a deep breath and sat inside my small cabin and relaxed. It was already half past nine and sugar daddy had still not showed up. I checked my messages and mails. There wasn't any mail from him. I sighed and put my head down on the desk in front of me.
"Ms Abraham!" I looked up with a jerk and saw Ms Smitha on the door.
I stood up and smiled at her. "Hey! Please, call me Ursula."
"Can I step in, Ursula?" She asked.
"Please" I pulled up a smile. She looked perfect in a high bun and formal office make up. She smiled at me and took her strides toward me.
"Please, sit. Ms Smitha."
"Smitha!" She smiled. I nodded my head. I wasn't expecting her to be friendly with me because of my reckless attitude but she always smiled at me.
"I went to see Mr Collins. He has still not come." I said.
"He won't come today." She said.
Oh-uh! I didn't like the sound of it. Why wasn't he going to come? I wanted to see him. He was a treat to my pervert eyes. I was already so demotivated and now I was upset too.
"But why?" I asked in curiosity.
She shrugged, "I don't know. From past six years I've noticed that he doesn't come on this day."
"You've noticed? Like do you keep track on the dates he doesn't come?" I frowned.
"No, it's my birthday today. And from past six years, I've noticed that he's always absent on my birthdays." She said.
Wait! It's her birthday?
"Oh! I didn't know. I'm sorry. Happy birthday, Smitha."
She smiled, "Thanks. And don't be sorry."
"So, Mr Collins is not coming?" I wanted to confirm again because I didn't feel good about it. The only thing I was excited about in this job was I always got chances of staring him. And now, his absence disappointed me.
"Why doesn't he come?" I asked feeling so restless.
"I don't know." She shrugged.
"C'mon, you are his secretory. He must have given some or the other excuse."
She frowned at me and narrowed her eyes, "Better focus on creating content otherwise he's going to scream at you again."
"And, you seen very interested in Mr Collins' reason for absence!" She raised her eyebrows. I gulped down immediately and rolled my fingers through my hair.
"I- I just wanted to know where he'd show up later or..." I trailed off as I couldn't find any sentence.
"He won't be there for next four days. Don't worry. He has asked me to coordinate with your work-" That felt like a bolt.
"Why won't he come?" I asked cutting her off.
"He's got to go to VLaunch too." I frowned.
"VLaunch?" I asked.
