(Picture above- Doaklan)
Lark's POV-
The entire drive was completely miserable. I sat close to Doaklan, hoping it would calm us both down, but we were both shaking.
We stopped near the boat dock and the guards unloaded us out of the truck. Parents were being ripped from their children, there was screaming and crying, and all I wanted to do was fight back. The guards walked behind us, making sure we couldn't go anywhere. I looked over at Doaklan as we approached the boat, and I could see tears forming in his eyes. I gave him a pitiful look as uncertainty started to finally set in. As we approached the boat, I froze. I felt like a cat being forced into a bath as guards began pushing me closer to the boat.
"Lark please don't fight back, they'll kill you", Doaklan said with anguish.I knew that I couldn't let my emotions get the best of me, if I wanted to make it out of here alive, I would have to be strategic about it. So, I put on a brave face and continued walking. There were different groups of people sitting, and from what I could observe it looked as if we were going to be separated by age. We boarded the boat while restrained and were ordered to sit with the other teenagers and some young adults. There were hundreds of people crammed into this small space, and the sounds of screaming and sobbing were really getting to me. As soon as we sat down I looked to Doaklan. His face was as pale as a ghost, his lip quivering, and his stare was blank.
"Hey, Doaklan... Doaklan? Listen to me, we're gonna get through this. Trust me, we're gonna get out of this alive."
He was clearly in a trance. His eyes didn't move, only his mouth did.
"Lark? Are we gonna survive this?" He said shakily.
"Hey, look at me." His head turned to face mine and all I could see was the terror in his eyes. "We need to figure out a way out of here," I whispered.
"Lark, if I g...get the chip, please kill me. I'd rather die than become a mindless robot."
"Are you serious?! Absolutely not, I cannot kill you. I'm sorry I just can't do that. Don't talk like that, we are gonna make it out of here."
Sir Arian then went to the middle of the crowd and gave us all a lecture. I hated the way he talked, I wanted to kick his teeth in so far down his throat. I refused to listen to a word he said, so I just sat there thinking of all the ways I wanted to hurt him. I'm pretty sure Doaklan was listening very closely, out of fear.
We just sat there as they continued to load the last couple of people onto the boat, and then we finally started moving. Since the Queen had access to upgraded technology, the boats basically had super thrusters. So what I'm saying is that we would be in Canada in about 3 hours. My eyes felt heavy and I felt my head start to fall. I rested my head on Doaklan's shoulder and closed my eyes. I felt the sway of the boat as if it was rocking me to sleep. I was exhausted and all I needed right now was a nap since there really wasn't anything else I could do.
"Lark! Lark! Wake up, look... over there." Doaklan loudly whispered.
I jolted up, my heart pounding out of my chest.
"What...What? What's happening?" I squinted at him in dazed confusion.
"Look, over there. Is that Eden?" His eyes lit up, and he had this big excited grin on his face.
I leaned forward to get a closer look at this girl with fiery reddish-orange hair. She turned around and as soon as my eyes met her piercing blue eyes, I knew it was Eden. She ran over to us and was followed by this other woman. She looked like a guard and I immediately froze again.Eden bent down to sit with us. "Guys don't worry, we have a plan.""Who's we?" I asked as I looked at Doaklan and then back to Eden with consternation on my face.
"Oh sorry, this is Elena." She said looking back at the female guard. "I have a lot to explain."
