We were doing okay at first. Thorin and Dwalin were taking turns leading and finding the path. Dwalin brushed aside some leaves, finding the path turning. "This way." he called, making a left. As we continued walking, the air progressively got thinner, my head pounding with the lack of oxygen. "Air. I need air." Bofur gasped. Óin held his head, complaining, "My head, it's spinning."
Suddenly, we came to a stop. "What's happening?" I asked, stumbling as my legs almost gave out. "Keep moving. Nori, why have we stopped?" Thorin asked, making his way to the front to Nori, who was leading us. Nori's eyes were wide as he replied, panicking, "The path...it's disappeared!" I groaned. Gandalf said that if we lost the path we wouldn't find it again.
"What's going on?" Dwalin asked gruffly. "We've lost the path!" Óin shouted. I looked over everyone in front of me to see a huge cliff, no pathway. "Find it. All of you look. Look for the path!" Thorin commanded. We looked around, brushing off leaves and dirt, looking everywhere and anywhere for it. Thorin came over to me. "Miss Paige, do you have any spells that could possibly right us again?" Wow, I never thought I'd hear Thorin say that. Oh, the irony. I thought for a minute, before drawing out my wand. "I have one that might work."
Thorin motioned for me to try it. "Do it. Everyone stop!" The Company stopped, looking over at us. Thorin backed up, giving me some space. I bit my lip, holding my wand up and casting, "Point Me." My wand pointed in a direction. Everyone started walking in that direction, but I stopped them. "Wait! My wand is telling me which way is north. Which means that east is...that way..."
I pointed in the direction of the cliff. Thorin sighed exasperatedly. "East may be that way, but we lost the path long ago. And even if the way wanted us to cross the cliff, there is no way how. Keep looking!" I sighed, putting my wand away. The longer we wandered around, looking for our path, the more dizzy I felt. I stumbled about, looking for the path. I remembered a tall figure in a pointy hat warning us about something, but I couldn't remember the warning or who he was.
I shrugged, skipping away. Balin shook his head, walking in one direction. "I don't remember this place before. None of it's familiar." Dori was now resorting to looking inside trees. "It's got to be here." Thorin grumbled, still wearing a stoic expression. I giggled, wondering why he was so serious all the time. He needed to lighten up a bit. "What hour is it?" Dwalin shook his head. "I do not know. I don't even know what day it is."
By early evening, Thorin was getting pissed. "Is there no end to this accursed place?" I pulled out my wand, casting, "Orchideous!" I giggled as flower petals fell from the sky, landing all over the place. I spun around in them. Though this didn't bother me, I couldn't remember what I was doing in the forest in the first place, just that whatever we were doing was no fun.
I threw a few petals at Kíli. "Flower fight!" I screeched. He looked at the petals then to me, slowly grinning. "Watch out!" I squealed and ran from him, Kíli holding a massive pile of flower petals in his arms. I hid behind his older brother as he dumped them all over us. "Kíli!" Fíli said in a scolding voice. I punched his shoulder jokingly. "C'mon, Fíli. Have a little fun for once!"
I casted the same spell again, sending most of it on Fíli. He stood there for a moment, before joining in on our fight. "Fíli! Kíli! Miss Paige!" Thorin called. I stuck my tongue out at him and walked with the two brothers, following the group. As we continued walking, my vision became a bit blurry and my ears started ringing. I looked down at my wand in my hand, watching as I bended my wand so its tip was facing me.
I gasped. I blinked a few times, looking ahead at the...were they Dwarves? Or just tiny people? Ori bent down and picked up a pouch that seemed to hold tobacco weed. Dori took it from him. "Look." Ori said, pointing to the bag. Dori looked around suspiciously. "A tobacco pouch. There's Dwarves in these woods." Oh, so they're not Dwarves. Just tiny people then. Bofur walked over to them and eyed the pouch. "Dwarves from the Blue Mountains, no less. This is exactly the same as mine."
