Just a foreword before you continue reading, almost every chapter will contain content that may be triggering to certain audiences, such as mentions of illness and even character death. If you can, I advise you don't skip any chapters. Unlike my other books, so as not to spoil the events taking place in the chapters, I will not be putting a warning on each individual one. There is a list of the general trigger warnings in the description of this book.
Also, this chapter will be shorter than all the chapters to follow, since it's only the intro.
That being said, let's move on to the story. This is a plot I came up with completely on my own, so I hope you enjoy!

~~~~An air of panic blanketed the room. Footsteps echoed and people murmured. The red light switched on, and the broadcast went live. Hundreds tuned in; watching, waiting, hoping, praying.
The news reporter straightened her tie, the breaking news warnings flashing around her head. She cleared her throat, glancing briefly down at the note cards in her hands. Shakily, she began, " Breaking news for the town of Fernwood."
" A case of the Sleeping Death has been reported just this afternoon," she said. " The victim has been taken to a medical facility under the control of the SDC. Their family and friends have been put into quarantine for careful evaluation."
The camera moved to a man sitting next to her, dressed in a business suit, his name flashing on the screen. He was young, in his early twenties, considered a prodigy. The man grinned, despite the terrible news that the woman next to him had just given. " Joining us today is one of the Head Scientists and co-founder of the Sleeping Death Corporation."
" Thanks for having me today," he said, his accent prominent. " I'm sure you're all worried about the Sleeping Death, but I assure you, my people are some of the best in the business. We're already working on a cure as we speak. So far, we've been able to contain the disease to particular areas due to our No Exceptions policy."
" All we ask is that you do your part, so we can do ours," he finished, and the camera panned back to the woman.
" Thank you, sir," she spoke, though the nervousness in her voice had not dispersed. " The SDC asks that you please stay inside as much as possible and try to stay away from crowded areas. Now back to your regularly scheduled program."
And just like that, the TV returned to static.
