SUNNY'S POV

A cold wind looped around Sunny's wings, buffeting her cape around. Peeking over into the valley, Sunny could see darkened petals floating around, evidence that the Blue Spirit was correct, and that species from other realms were joining the Shadow Rebellion. Now was one of the rare times when they didn't have one of their surges going on, and at the most inconvenient time. Shaking her head, Sunny motioned for Rayem and Eclipse to edge down the side of the valley, watching for anything. There was a tunnel marked 'Prisoners' carved into the wall of the valley, and the group headed down it, the light snuffed out. Rayem made a lantern out of light magic, illuminating the tunnel ahead. They walked in silence for a time, then another surge began, and not a moment too soon. Sunny shivered as the air turned cold, and as they turned a corner, there was a swirling black mass of petals waiting for them.

Leaping into action, Rayem darted forward with a dagger in each hand. Rotating himself, he cut each petal. The Flower-Person didn't retreat, though, forcing Rayem to fall back. He did a back-handspring to get back to Sunny and Eclipse, readying himself.

"We can't attack recklessly," Eclipse said, studying the shadows. "Our enemy is from Floare, and they are our allies."

"Yeah," Sunny said. She pulled out her staff, "These people are such a pain to deal with." She readied her staff, about to attack. To her surprise, the petals finally retreated, disappearing down the hall.

"That was odd." Eclipse mused, "Completely unexpected. There's so many things that could branch off this..." She trailed off. Sunny grabbed her arm and hauled her forwards. Reaching the end of the tunnel, dark metal bars stretched across it. Behind them, there were her friends, and the Elders. And the Elders were... glowing blue? "They're ascending," Eclipse whispered, "We need to get them back to Floare."

Sunny ran up to the bars and twisted them open, making a hole just big enough for a Sky Child to slip through. Falling in, she and her friends helped the others out. Walking up to Zonas, she whispered, "You're not going to die." He only smiled at her.

"I've been an Elder for far too long, it's my time."

Tears burned the backs of her eyes, threatening to spill over. She would not cry. She was strong. Steeling her emotions, she pushed Zonas out the door. Taking one last look around, she was in the middle of climbing out of the cell when the ascending began.

Her vision sharpened, giving her a splitting headache, and sparks skittered down her skin, causing her to flicker in and out of sight.
Zonas laughed and tugged her forward, fingers passing through her arm.

Rayem was standing next to a tall spirit with a blinding silver cape, white tunic, and short hair. Eclipse was staring around the drab tunnel with wonder, eyes sparkling with hundreds of stars. Turning the corner, it was blocked with Shadow Rebellion members. Swirling petals and snapping jaws, Sky children drawing light and shadow magic. Sunny glared. They needed to get the Elders to Floare as fast as possible. Looking at her friends they nodded in mutual agreement. These Shadow Rebellion members would regret the day they crossed paths with the Elders.

"I had no idea you could teleport!"

"Neither did I! Sol was the one who taught me the basics in like the three seconds we had."

Rayem and Edna were discussing their newfound powers next to the tall spirit, Sol. He had turned out to be a long-ago friend of Mez's, having ascended long before he should have. Rayem had found a new talent to teleport short distances, and they had made it back to Floare.

Now, everyone was just waiting around for the Elders to ascend. Every passing moment seemed to make them more blue and translucent, slowly returning to their former glory as they ascended into the night sky.

All at once, the future Elders froze. Sunny felt like something cold was setting in her bones, turning her into something new. It burned, like a piece of dry ice stuck under her skin. Then, with a whisper of wind, the Elders blew away. Sunny saw Eclipse tilt over, probably everything she was seeing was too much for her.

Sunny knew that she wouldn't see Zonas again for a long time, perhaps even never again.

After a while, Sunny noticed with her sharpening vision that Lily was walking among the Future Elders- no, the Elders, and putting them to sleep. When she reached Sunny, she looked up at her.

"You need rest, for tomorrow you will be changed."

Sunny nodded, and while she was slipping into blackness, she made a silent vow. She would crush this Tam, and destroy the shadow rebellion once and for all. After all, they were Elders now, and nothing could stop them.
