EDNA'S POV

Edna couldn't believe her eyes. Her friends had been captured by shadow snakes that tortured their prisoners? She felt the urge to rip the scroll right down the middle. Turning around, she punched the wall, wincing at the sound of her knuckles cracking. Immediately, her golden healing magic knitted the bones together, good as new. That had only been happening recently, she noticed. She heard someone clearing their throat and looked up. Rayem was standing in the door, eyes wide. She smiled sheepishly.

"I'm fine."

"Phew! I thought we'd have to take you to the village healer."

Edna scoffed, "I am a healer."

Rayem laughed, "For yourself?"

"Only recently."

Rayem tilted his head, "My power is getting stronger as well."

Edna grabbed the scroll and rolled it up tight, "What even is your power?"

Rayem grinned and shook his head.

"Rayem..." Edna said, exasperated, "You literally pass out every time you use it and-"

Rayem stepped forward and took her face in his hands.

"You worry too much. You have to stop."

He was right, she worried about everything from keeping her cape in one piece to-

"You're worrying again." He looked her dead in the eyes, "Promise me you'll try to stop."

She sighed, "I promise."

The soft melody of a flute drifted around the cavern, mingling with the sound of a waterfall. Lily had shown Edna a healing pond, tucked away in the shadows at the bottom of the cavern. Edna had started spending time there while the others were planning a rescue attempt for the others.

It was calming, with soft moss lining the stone pool. She could see every fish through the crystal clear water. Gentle waves lapped against her toes.

Shaking her head, she got up. Calling on the magical properties of the water, it tinted golden. She flicked her wrist and coiled a bit into a flask. It had powerful healing properties, and Edna had a feeling she would need it when they planned to rescue the others in three days' time. Opening her wings, she lifted off the ground, gliding up to her room.

She skidded in the door, crashing into the back wall. The silk capes made by a local merchant made her go much faster than she was used to. Setting down the flask, she heard someone come in her room. Turning around, she found Sunny in the doorway.

"I've come to tell you your role in the rescue plan!"

Edna grinned and motioned Sunny in.

She stepped into the room, "You will be waiting here until we come back, and if any of them are hurt, you can heal them."

Edna froze. She would be staying behind?

Sunny caught this and tried to cheer her up, "You'll be useful here! The less people coming, the better."

Edna sighed. Sunny was right. She was more useful here, near the healing pond.

"Who is going on the mission?" She asked.

"Me, Rayem and Eclipse."

So basically everyone except her.

"But it's so dangerous, and-"

Sunny smiled at her, "We'll be fine. We have Eclipse, remember? She can tell the future!"

Edna sighed.

Sunny smiled again and leaped out the door.

The day of the rescue loomed over everything Edna did, knowing her friends would be putting themselves in danger, and all she would be doing was sitting by the pond, waiting,

Ace had found more scrolls about the shadow snakes, but she had put off reading them. Deciding now was a good time, she unrolled one.

The Poison of Shadows

Edna smiled, remembering when she and her friends had thought they were poisoned by shadows as well, only to figure out that they were the future Elders instead. The scroll stated;

Shadow snakes have many ways to subdue their victims, mainly paralyzing venom used to capture them, so they can take them back to their masters.

(A/N: This scroll is terribly written, but I am using it to get info across XD)

Edna skimmed along, having already seen most of it, and re-visited the portions on healing.

She read through the other scrolls, and before she knew it, the moss-light outside in the cavern had dimmed, and she was fast asleep on the table.

The days dwindled down. Three, then two, one, then everyone was getting ready to leave. Edna had found herbs in the cavern needed to counteract some of the minor attacks the shadow snakes had. Edna doubted that they would have to use them, since the information she had gleaned from the scrolls said that shadow snakes were most commonly used for capturing prisoners, and bringing them back to their owners. After Edna gave them their herbs, she stood back, wringing her hands and worrying that this would be the last day she ever saw Sunny, Rayem, and Eclipse.

Rayem noticed her worrying and walked over.

"I thought you said you were going to stop worrying so much!" He said.

Edna smiled ruefully, "It's sort of in my nature to worry."

Ace shouted over that it was time to go. Rayem hesitated before stepping forward. He kissed her on the forehead, and with a wink and a smile, her friends were off, winging into the sky and undoubtedly certain danger.
