Stubble - Morning after previous extra scene!
"Oh my god," Danny groaned, shifting away a little.
"What?" Steve said, instantly jerking his head away, pulling himself off of Danny.
Had he crossed their blurred line again? Nuzzling into Danny like that?
It was getting harder and harder to keep track of what he could and couldn't do.
Especially since it seemed Danny was okay with pretty much everything.
"No, nothing, just..." Danny's cheeks were a little flushed. "Your stubble is more... stubbly than usual... it pricked."
"Oh." Steve trailed his palm on his jaw, tensing it at he did. "I forgot to shave yesterday..." He looked back at Danny. "Sorry."
"No its..." Danny wondered how red his face was. Even his ears felt warm. Can ears go red? he wondered. "It's-it's fine."
Steve nodded. He wasn't sure how to respond so he carefully laid back down, making sure to give Danny some more space on the bed.
As Steve laid back down Danny sat up.
Steve felt tempted to sit back up with him. "What's up?" He asked, forcing his head deeper into the pillow.
"I'm- I'm gonna, um," Danny stuttered as he got out of bed, eyes involuntarily taking a second to give Steve a once over, there spread out on the bed, shirtless and starring Danny down with intent.
"I, um." Danny stubbled backwards. "I've gotta check in with work. Took the whole week off so there's probably a bunch of bad guys I need to catch or something. Gotta see if we've made any progress with that one case." He nodded then quickly turned, shoved his feet into his shoes and left the cabin.
He started sprinting.
His heart felt like it was racing a million miles a minute.
He wasn't sure where he was running to, wasn't paying attention to the turns he was taking, but soon he found himself hiking up their hill.
He reached the top.
He felt like throwing up, but he was pretty certain that was just from the unprecedented amount of exercise he did. (He still didn't understand why Steve and Gracie actually enjoyed running.)
He walked over to the edge, trying to even his breathing as he focused on the rising sun sending streaks of pink through the ocean.
Okay Daniel. He thought to himself as he began pacing.
Lay it all out. Just like any other case. Look at the facts.
One. You're into guys.
He nodded, daring to speak out loud. "Not really a shocking development, something we've known for a while, but still... worth saying out loud."
Which... I still haven't actually done.
" Right." He replied to himself. He nodded and looked around, hands clenching as he finally spoke this truth out loud for the first time. "I'm into guys."
He let that sink in.
"Alright. Two. The specific guy I like right now is..."
Steve.
Just say it out loud Danno.
"S-" He cut himself off.
He let out a deep breath and stopped pacing.
Hands clenching once more, he walked over to the ledge and sat down where he would normally sit with Steve.
"Steve." He said after a few seconds.
"Steve McGarrett." He repeated.
Steve McGarrett.
The most conceited, selfless, reckless, careful, impulsive, meticulous paradox of a madman I've ever met.
" Right." Danny articulated.
When did we start falling for Steve?
Danny slid a hand through his hair.
He'd only recently allowed himself to acknowledge his feelings, but had they been harboring long before then?
The first sleepover?
The kitchen incident?
Or was it even before then?
With the ziplining and the archery and the... fuck was I flirting with him even then?
And then there's Halloween...
" Oh man," He covered his face with his hands.
We almost kissed Halloween night...
That's... I mean, there's no other way to read that situation.
I was... I would have kissed him.
Would I have regretted it in the morning?
Would I regret it now?
Danny could feel his face heating up again, flashes of moments with Steve racing through his head.
His hands dropped and he stared at the ocean. "I fucking kissed his hand."
"Uggghhhhhhh." He let out, resting his back on the slab.
"Alright Danno, it's been a whole month since Halloween...What's the next move? "
He stared at the clouds floating above him.
He found one the shape of a bunny.
"Bunno." He said.
He looked for more shapes, letting the sounds of Hawaii drown out his own thoughts.
By the time his phone started vibrating, lighting up with Steve's texts, he had found in the clouds: two more bunnies, a lion, an elephant and a few dragons.
Danny pulled out his phone and read Steve's consecutive texts.
Are you almost done with the call? - Steven

:O just realized that if ur still talking to your boss then ur phone is probably buzzing a lot, sorry I'll stop texting now! - Steven
Danny's jaw tensed as he read the texts, not trying to stop the grin that inevitably placed itself on his face.
He texted that he would be back soon and shoved the phone back in his pocket.
He stared up at the sky again, letting out a long exhale.
"Well," He said as he stood up, patting the dirt off his pants. "I don't know if that actually accomplished anything... I still don't know what I'm gonna tell him about the Friday thing."
He rolled his eyes at himself and made his way back to the cabins.
