Cleaning - after food fight in previous extra

It was too late to still be up.

The fun of the night threatened with being overshadowed by the responsibilities of adulthood.

Still, as they cleaned and scrubbed and dabbed the living room clean, Steve and Danny couldn't help the laughter that kept bubbling out of them at random moments, in between their bickers.

"Alright babe," Danny had said when they had come back down to the living room, freshly showered once again, "Where are your cleaning supplies?"

They then spent 10 minutes arguing about their cleaning techniques.

"That's not how we did it in the military."

"Well, Steven, it's how we did it in my momma's house, if it was good enough for her, then it's good enough for you."

"Why are you- you just said you've never used one before, I have." Danny said, pushing Steve away from the power wash carpet cleaner they had found in the garage. "Will you let me-"

"It- just-" Steve said, frustrated, "It looks like you're doing it wrong Danny." Steve argued, trying to take the handle of the washer again. "Just let me try-"

"I-first you never let me drive my own car, now you're-Steven you really hate not being in control don't you?" Danny said, shaking his head at Steve.

"I just think that I can-" Steve argued back.

"Alright," Danny said, throwing his hands up in the air and stepping aside. "All yours babe."

Danny crossed his arms and watched with pleasure as Steve struggled to get the machine to work.

It sputtered on and off and Steve tried not to look like an idiot as he fought with the controls.

Danny snickered then went on with the rest of the cleaning, trying to hold back his laughter as he took the covers off the couch to throw them in the wash.

"Danno ..." Steve pouted as Danny came back from the laundry room.

"Mmhm? Yeah, babe?" Danny asked, cocking his head forward, sweet smile of triumph on his face.

"Umm, could you... could you turn it on?"

"I have no emotional attachment to this rug." Steve sighed, wiping his brow as he regarded the remaining stains with distaste.

"We just need to run the washer on it again." Danny sighed.

"No." Steve shook his head, mind made up, "It's old and I've wanted to buy a new one for a while now. Let's just throw it out. It's past midnight and you've got work in the morning."

Danny looked at the rug then back up at Steve. "Do you know how expensive rugs are?"

"What?"

"I'm just saying. Why waste the money? This is a good rug Steven. If you really want a new one then fine, let's just throw it away. But if it's just cause you're too lazy to finish cleaning it, then go to bed and I'll finish washing it."

"Lazy ," Steve said in contempt, "isn't a word in my vocabulary."

"Oh, right, yeah," Danny said, nodding, "I forgot. You never stop being Super Seal Captain Commander GI JOE Steve McGarrett."

"Shuddup and get up, let's wash this stupid rug."

They high fived each other as they collapsed onto the clean as new couch. Their tired, bordering on delirious, laugher dying out.
