potential trigger warning: mentions of suicide, sexual objectification.
"What do you mean you haven't found anything?!"
Song Mingi dodged as Jung Hoseok's hand hurled the nearest object— which just so happened to be a vase towards him, wincing as he heard it shattering into thousands of pieces. He breathed a sigh of relief, straightening himself up.
"Sir, I've been looking, but there isn't anything I've found." Mingi adjusted his glasses. "I'm starting to think this was a double suicide, just like the official report stated."
Hoseok scoffed, jaw clenched as he shot daggers at Mingi. Mingi shrunk, gazing at the man fearfully. "Song Mingi. Do you think if I even remotely thought it was a double suicide, that I'd have hired you, the best private investigator in Korea?"
"There's no evidence to suggest otherwise," Mingi argued, taking a tentative step forward. "Sir, anything found on Lee Juno and Lee Adeline, only points to their suicide. They weren't right in the head; the scans prove it. Not to mention, there were disturbing notes saved in their home computers. There's nothing."
"Juno and Adeline were like family to me," Hoseok seethed, his hands closing into fists. "I know them. They wouldn't just kill themselves. They were seeing people. Where are they?"
Mingi's lips thinned. "There's no trace of them. They appear to have vanished. I've interviewed anyone working with the Lees, from chefs to servants to anyone I thought could know something. Strangely enough, no one seems to remember or know of anyone having a relationship with the Lees. Seeing as you were close to them and you didn't know of them, it's hard to see how anyone else would."
"Adeline and Juno never show off their significant others." Hoseok fought the urge to roll his eyes. "I still gave you names."
Mingi grimaced. "The names were fake. Made up identities."
Hoseok resisted the urge to hurl another inanimate object at Mingi. It had been three months now since Lee Adeline and Lee Juno's passing, and he was no step closer to figuring what caused their deaths. He wasn't an idiot— not like how the police and apparently this private investigator were. Something in his gut told him that their deaths were anything but suicide, but no matter what he tried, nothing turned up. Whatever had happened— whoever was involved, cleaned up their tracks very well.
The only thing that gave them clues were the heartbreaking letters found– their suicide notes.
"You're going to tell me, Adeline and Juno, used fake names in their suicide letters, letters in which they stated they couldn't live anymore because they lost the love of their lives?" Hoseok asked incredulously. "Seriously, just how are you the best private investigator in Korea? You're less competent than the fools that led the investigation. Mingi, you better have something better for me next time. Get out of my sight."
The door shut loudly behind Hoseok. He shook his head, letting out a sharp sigh as he poured himself some wine. When he took up the task to figure out what happened to the Lees, he expected to find something, anything that could help him. He didn't want to believe Adeline and Juno had committed suicide— it made no sense. Those two were successful. Hoseok had known them since their high school years. He knew how many lives those two hard destroyed, something they all had done to get where they were today. And yet, the official records stated suicide; it's what everyone had accepted.
"Hoseok, it's a bit early for you to be drinking, don't you think?"
Hoseok chuckled slightly, turning around at the sound of the warm, mellow voice. Kim Namjoon was standing by the doorway, leaning against the doorframe, one hand in his pocket while the other ran through his currently silver hair. To say he looked amused was an understatement.
