"So, Charlee, how did it feel when you heard you and Peeta's name being called as the victors of the 74th Hunger Games? How did it feel knowing that you would be able to go back home?"
"It felt great. It meant that I would be able to go back home and see my family again and the fact that Peeta won as well made it that much better."
"How do you think it would have felt if Peeta died and you had to go home by yourself?"
"I don't think it would even have been worth going home, since home wouldn't be the same without him."
"Well, that's sweet," Claudius said before looking over at Peeta. "So, Peeta, I've heard that you've had a crush on Charlee way before the games, when you were still in school. Is that right?"
I looked over at Peeta and saw him blush, then smile. "Yeah, that's right. I mean, how could you not? She's perfect, isn't she?"
Peeta looked over at me and I felt myself blush.
"What do you guys think? Is she perfect?" Claudius asked the crowd in front of us. Loud cheering erupted in the crowd and I smiled and gave a small wave, making the crowd erupt into even louder cheers.
Claudius quieted the audience and asked a few more questions before finally moved onto Haymitch and Effie. "I think we all know how Haymitch is with his drinking," he teased. "How was it like having to stop drinking to mentor Charlee and Peeta?"
"It was pretty hard, of course, since drinking is like life to me. But Effie was able to help me through it and keep me concentrated on keeping Charlee and Peeta alive."
Claudius turned to face Effie, who was seated beside Haymitch. "Effie, how was it keeping Haymitch concentrated on keeping Charlee and Peeta alive?"
"She sighed. "Well, it was hard. It's like life for him, like he said. He did good keeping away from drinking, but I think he enjoys being able to drink again," she said, motioning to Haymitch who was taking another drink from his bottle.
The crowd laughed and we laughed along with them.
Claudius then turned to my family. "How was it like for you to have Charlee get reaped? How did it feel when she came back?"
"I guess I should have expected she'd get reaped," mother started, "Since she insisted to put her name in so many times to get us extra tesserae. I just never thought that she'd actually get reaped. I was really happy when she won, of course, since it meant that she would be able to come back home. She had promised me she would come home, but I knew the chances were small that she actually would."
I smiled, knowing that was true. I had seen how broken down she was when she got to see me for the last time before the games. It had broke my heart maybe even more than me leaving her had broken hers. I had promised her I'd come back, but it was just something I'd said to reassure her, I didn't actually think I would be coming back.
Claudius turned to Peeta's family. "How was it for you when Peeta got reaped? How did it make you feel when you found out he was coming home?"
I felt Peeta's hand hold mine and gave it a small reassuring squeeze. Peeta didn't have the best relationship with his mother, and we both knew that since she most likely would be the only one talking out of his family, she would say something bad, or she would lie to make herself look good.
"Well, it was sad of course when Peeta got reaped, since I knew there was no chance he was coming back. Also, there would be one less worker in the bakery, you know?" She asked, as if she expected the crowd to start laughing. They didn't.
I felt Peeta's hand tighten around mine and knew it was all that was holding him back from getting mad at his mother. I rubbed the surface of his palm with my thumb, trying to calm him down. Peeta didn't get mad often, but when he did it was mostly his mother that was the reason.
"I was shocked that Peeta had won," Peeta's mother continued, "but I knew that it was mostly because of Charlee," she said, giving me a smile that I didn't return.
"OK, well that's all the questions I have and after we finish, you can go outside and take a hovercraft back to District 12. And, of course, both of your families will get to live in the Victor's Village from now on. And before we end the interview, you'll have a chance to take pictures with the victors before they go home, so make sure not to miss that!"
When the curtain closed, we went backstage again and took some pictures with the Capitol folk. After the pictures, we went outside and got into a hovercraft that took us back to District 12, where we got to live in the Victor's Village with our families for the rest of our lives.
