"Shh. God, Scott. Could you be any louder?" Mitch asked.
"Sorry I--ow!"
"You're going to get us caught!"
"Why are we crawling? We could be walking like regular humans."
"It's makes it more dramatic."
"Oh fuck that, I'm walking." I stood up and sighed as my long legs began to stretch.
"You're no fun."
"No fun? I'm doing this with you and I think that's fun enough."
Mitch stuck his tongue out at me before jumping onto the stage. I turned on the flashlight and did a quick scan of the auditorium. He was right, this was dramatic. It felt like a movie.
We snuck into one of auditoriums and were planning to watch The Conjuring on the big screen. If anyone caught us, we wouldn't be in too much trouble because Mitch is the boss, but we liked to pretend to add to the dramatic effect.
"I got it," Mitch whispered as the movie went into the system.
I checked one more time to make sure that the doors were locked. Mitch and I sat in the middle row surrounded by all of snacks from the vending machine and the conversation looming over our heads that neither of us wanted to start.
But hey, he kissed me.
The previews began and Mitch pulled his legs up and to the side, the way my sister used to in school when she wore skirts or dresses. He naturally came into my side and I decided that since he was being bold, I would too. I wrapped my arm around his shoulder, skipping the overused yawning trick, and he moved even closer into my side.
"You know," I whispered, "We really shouldn't be doing this."
"Sneaking into the auditorium?"
"No, you know what I'm talking about. The kiss was--"
"What happened to us?" Mitch interrupted.
"I don't know. But I'm happy when I'm with you and I'm sad when I'm not, simple as that. That has to mean something."
"Let's just not think for a second, okay?"
I nodded and Mitch turned his body around completely. He put his hands on either side of my face.
"I love you Scott Hoying," he whispered.
I felt like-- well, I don't even know how to describe it.
I didn't have time to try anyways, because Mitch's lips pressed against my own.
If a relationship was only for kissing, we would work. I swear it was magical. He's so fucking perfect and he loves me.
He loves me.
How did I get so lucky?
He pulled away and our eyes met. Mine began to water as I looked at this beautiful boy in front of me. This beautiful boy that loves me.
He leaned forward and our foreheads rested against each others.
"Don't cry," he whispered.
"Does this mean you'll try again? I won't screw up, I swear on my life."
He laughed. "I trust you, I really do. But screw me over again and--"
"No, not possible."
He turned around and cuddled into my side again.
He pressed play with the remote and the movie began.
He loves me.
