"Examination |igˌzaməˈnāSHən| noun – a formal test of a person's knowledge or proficiency in a particular subject or skill. ORIGIN late Middle English (also in the sense 'testing (one's conscience) by a standard'): via Old French from Latin examinatio(n-), from examinare 'weigh, test'."
Yna's POV
"A doctor reviews a 72 y/o pt.'s ABG analysis and identifies that the PaCO2 & HCO2 is elevated and the pH is below the normal level. These findings are indicative of: a) metabolic alkalosis b) metabolic acidosis c) respiratory alkalosis d) respiratory acidosis. What do you think is the answer Sam? Mine is B." I looked at Sam after reading the question out loud.
He continued writing in his worn out notes and didn't even bother to give a glance. I kept poking at his arm and called his name repeatedly para naman tingnan niya ako but epic fail. Suplado!
"Ay mali. The answer is letter D pala. I'm so stuu-pidd. Ikaw Sam, ano ba yung sagot mo?" I grinned at him and wiggled my feet, hoping this time he'll turn to look at me.
Kanina pa intentionally mali ang mga sagot ko para i-correct or pansinin niya man lang pero wala.
Next choice in 'OPlan: Talk to Me Sam' ay hinablot ko ang notebook niya. Tumingin kaagad siya akin and gave me a piss-off glare.
"Sam naman. Sorry na. Grabe naman to oh!"
Nakangising binalik ko ang pinakamamahal niyang notebook na nakasulat ang rationale ng mga questions na kanina ko pa binabasa.
"Wow ang galing mo naman Sam! Memorize mo pa ang normal values ng arterial blood gases and mechanics for analysis? Sinolve mo pa talaga ang level of compensation. You're so great! Pulmonary Physio was discussed during 1st year pa ng med, right?"
He didn't even bother giving a comment or anything. He's back in his poker face mode while scribbling continuously on his notes.
"Sam, tatlong araw ka nang ganyan. Di bagay sayo ang hindi nang-aasar. Sam!!!"
Yes, it's been 3 days since the ankle sprain incident pero until now he's still mad at me. He returned from his car with a very foul mood as he grumpily treated my right ankle and applied the standard procedure for every acute injury.
I told him RICE is enough but he coerced me to do PRINCES (Protect, Rest, Ice, NSAIDs, Compress, Elevate and Stabilize) kasi ano daw silbi ng upgrades kung hindi gagamitin. Andaming loopholes ng reasoning niya at repetitive lang din yung ibig sabihin ng iba plus I don't drink meds unless life-threatening or too much na yung sakit pero sige na nga lang at least he's reminding me about that all the time.
He insisted on carrying me and be my PA. He even proposed to my ever-supportive folks na araw-araw siyang dadalaw to change the bandages. Seriously? I can change them on my own! I didn't graduate from PT for nothing. Pero okay na, hayaan na si Mr. Suplado. Besides, we can review daw together for the upcoming exams.
The driving lesson was postponed too and he re-arranged my daily activities and prescribed that I don't move around too much unless he's with me. He's also been too grumpy since then. He only talks to me when my siblings and parents are around.
Now that I'm out of options, I kicked him using my right foot, which is resting in his lap for elevation purposes as he insisted.
"Seriously, Kristina? What if it got dislocated this time?" A very pissed-off Sam stood up towering over me as he let out flames of burning glares.
