I lock the apartment door and get in a taxi, it was a white 2014 Toyota camry Le.I kept tapping my hands on my leg impatiently in the bizare traffic.The song playing was "Ready or Not" by britt Nicole and Lecrae, when I hear a bang.

Oh my God! I look at the driver and he apologises profusely, puts the car in a parking motion.

"I'm sorry miss, this car has had issues since last week, but im gonna fix it don't worry"

He walks and tells me he had a to get a tyre change and he disappears.

"Can you please be fast cuz I really need to get home quick" I shout after him.

Then I heard a woman's voice and I could not believe my eyes when I saw Alexa.She was with another guy.Wait! That was the delivery man so who was with Katie.I looked down and what I saw made me assume worst.

The blade of the knife Alexa carried was thin and blunt, not made for cutting through flesh and bone.

What did she do to my cousin?!

The first thing that left my mouth was a horrified scream, hoarse with terror coursing through my body.

"Aaww cut the drama Mia, " she finally spoke."it ain't like we are strangers we've met already"The delivery guy smirked crossing his arms.

"Y..ou..ar..e not a gh...ost are you?" Soon as I said those words she let out a deafening laugh...until I got really uncomfortable.

"Stop!" I said, but I was sure she was long past hearing me.In desperation, I stepped towards her, any fear of her turning the blade onto me shoved to the back of my mind as I grabbed her right hand pulling it away.Alexa was strong, but with only one arm I was able to manoeuvre the knife_wielding one away from her body for a few mere seconds.

But then firm hands clasped my shoulder, yanking me away harshly.

"Don't touch her" The delivery guy said and I stepped back.

"Why are you doing this?...this woman is evil" my voice was shaking.

"Trust me honey I'm not the enemy here...maybe Fidel lied to you" she said seriously.

"He would never lie to me" I snapped back with clenched teeth.

"Aw poor little thing...Mia you're in love snap out of it and you'll understand that Family is evil."

"I don't believe you"

"You will soon and when you do you'll look for me...now excuse us miss demorest we have to be on our way" she winked and they left.

I was breathless and my whole body hot I felt dizzy and now I tried to control my breathing.

"Miss, are you okay?" The driver was back and I was relieved."sorry I took long my..."

"It is okay let's just get out of here please" I got in the car and we left.

The entire journey was spent with heavy thoughts I really did not know what to do.I was scared and all I could hear was the thumping of my heart blasting through my ears.

My phone rings and I jump with a start.

Wait I don't remember putting a ringtone in my phone.

"Mia Alexa here, hey hey relax...I just need to remind you that there's a surprise waiting for you back at the campus dorms If I were you I'd hurry up and get there"

I swallowed, my heart breaking, That was the only way I could describe it.My heart was splitting into two, crumbling to the ground.I had already failed at saving her."What did you do to her?"

She does'nt respond and hangs up instead.I get at the campus and head straight to the dorms.I open the door and the my eyes beam with happiness.

"Mother!"

I jump on her and engulf her in a tight hug.My mother looks eerily perfect as always.Not a single smudge around her heavily made up eyes, her red lipstick smooth and silky.

"Babyy I missed you so much"

"I missed you too mama" we both cry.

"I knew you'd like my surprise" Katie says smiling broadly.

"I love it katie"

"Look at you , you look so thin and worried , " she looks as she waves her arms to gesture up and down.

"I'm okay mama you know school and new environment" I smile and hug her again.

"Anyways I have to get going my love...you know I can't stay here with you two...I'll have to stay in a hotel room before i get an apartment for us" she says and I cant help but look at her beautiful smile I'd missed so much.

"We can go with you mum and make sure you're settled in" I suggest.

"No no no my dear, I'll be fine much less I want you to stay here with Katie and get ready cuz we finna live together." She says and Katie exclaims.

"Live with me too?"she smiles.

" of course Katie you're my daughter too and I want you two to be coming home for a homemade meal by your mother...how does that sound?"she said.

"PERFECT!" We both say and laugh at ourselves later.

See i didn't lie to you...you liked the surprise well I did too...trust me from now on!

That was the text I received from Alexa, i switched my phone off.I just wanted to be happy mama was back even if it was for this particular moment.
