She was done with questions. She wouldn't answer any of them. Dumbledore, McGonagall, and even Snape had come to pry for information, but she wouldn't budge. At least not to Dumbledore and McGonagall. When the pair stepped out, Snape insisted on staying.
"What are you even thinking, Gaunt? I don't believe you for a second. You are going to tell me exactly how everything went down in there", he said, gripping her wrist.
With a swift movement, she managed to take her wrist back and growl at the man.
"Think I'd tell you? Look at your wrist. I know where your allegiance lies. I won't tell you anything"
"My allegiance is with Dumbledore, girl, it has always been"
"Then, in that case, it's worse. I won't tell you anything about my plans if you go tell them to Dumbledore", she growled back.
"Tell me, or I'll take it right from you"
"Do it, then"
"Legilimens!", shouted Snape, pointing his wand right at her face.
She gritted her teeth and resisted the invisible hand clawing and caressing her mind. She growled and did not let the bindings surround her brain. She had to remind herself of her parents and their mission. Her mission.
"H-How? Explain", seethed Snape, feeling belittled by a mere child.
"Courtesy of Aunt Mala and Uncle Seamus, now, you are quite disturbing my bedrest", she said.
"Unbreakable vow. I will do it. I promise not to tell anyone about your plans and in return, you come and ask me for advice. We cannot have you risking your life. You are a valuable piece in this puzzle", he said, outstretching his arm.
"Fine, I'll do it. You can advise me, but it doesn't mean I'll do it, that I can't promise".
He nodded and gripped her forearm. Wisps of black surrounded her arms as she summoned it with her wand.
"I, Morrigan Gaunt, promise to tell Severus Snape about my plans that involve Lord Voldemort in exchange for his constant advice", she then nodded to him.
"I, Severus Snape, promise to keep the information disclosed to myself and advise Morrigan".
She felt a part of her tether to his. Her eyes moved to their linked forearms. The black wisps disappeared into their skin.
"Now that it is all over, I will tell you everything. Listen well, I am not repeating myself, Professor Snape. I plan to honor my parents. To honor my bloodline. What a better way to do it than to have Slytherin rise to power and more. What another way to do it than to first compromise, and then attack? All along I will play Tom's games. I will blindly follow him. In the chambers, I made a deal. I offered myself. You see, he needs me to secure the ministry and the Wizenmagot. He needs me for other pureblood families to join him. He needs me to put a pureblood aristocrat front. In exchange, I would be his equal, I would not be marked as his follower, or as his soldier, we would rise together side by side. He agreed. This is a game I will play. He will think I will be playing his games, but in the end, he would be playing mine. He is gone. For now. I don't know when he will make his return, but he will come back. You see, I will come up on top. I will always rise above. I will win", she said slowly.
Professor Snape stilled. He eyed the girl with newfound admiration. He saw the determination and ambition in her eyes. There was nothing he wouldn't change about her plan. Everything was elaborate, cold, and calculated. He could never believe this astute planning came from the 12-year-old girl in front of him, but he knew that Mala and Seamus had bred her for this.
"Gaunt, you have to wary of him. He is like you. Cold and elaborate. If you are going to do this, you better do it right. There is no room for you to be a fool. If he comes back, rest assured. I am a spy. I will follow Dumbledore. Not him. not ever. I will follow you. If I think Dumbledore is losing his mind, then I will follow you, Gaunt", he finished.
She nodded and rested her head back in her bed. She was drained both of energy and magic. She heard the door close at a distance. Soon, her friends came back inside.
Blaise caressed her forehead, and Daphne clutched her hand. She smiled. It was these moments that made her feel loved. Even when Aidan lurched inside the infirmary like a madman and barrelled her in a hug. She loved her family. She loved. That made her different from Voldemort. She loved.
She clutched her friends' hands and solemnly looked at Aidan. It was there, she told them every single detail of her what happened.
Daphne cried. Blaise cursed. Somehow, Aidan was in his spot, glaring at the girl.
"I'm not sorry for what I did, Aidan. If it meant protecting you from him, I would do it all over again-"
"But you don't have to-"
"Listen well Aidan, Yes. I need to do this. I have my part to play in this, you have none. Tom's destiny for longer than I was born, is intertwined with mine. We were meant to cross paths either way. If he found me later, he wouldn't have had this mercy. I need to do this. I am the only one who can. Let me do this, for you, for Aunt Mala and Uncle Seamus, for my parents, for my friends", she said. Tears welled in her eyes.
She cried. For the second time. A single tear leaked from her eye.
Blaise immediately brushed his thumb, taking away the tear and embracing her. She snuggled to his best friend's side. Daphne also embraced her and put her head in her shoulder.
"We would never judge you, Mor. You've done this for us. You have proven the best friendship of them all, the one that other people would kill for. For whatever plan, we are there with you. Count us in. We will do anything you ask. Daphne and I at least, we pledge our loyalty to our queen, the Slytherin Queen", said Blaise.
She cried there. Tears spilled from her icy blue eyes. She had the support of her friends and cousin. That is all that mattered to her. She wasn't alone. She was going to do this with her friends by her side.
She let herself rest that night. She wasn't battered or wounded, but Madame Pomfrey insisted she stay the night to watch over her. The only thing the matron could offer her was a chamomile tea and a sleeping draught. For the first time in her second year, she could rest.
The next day, before she could go back to her common room she saw Lucius Malfoy. He placed his cane on her shoulder and grinned.
She poised her head high and unlatched the cane from her. She glared at the man in front of her until her eyes fell to the bound leather journal of Tom Riddle. It was him all along. He had placed the journal in Ginny's cauldron that day. It was always him.
She grinned back.
"So, Mr. Malfoy, always a pleasure seeing you. I must say, my uncle's journal in your robe sticks out like a sore thumb, I advise you to hide it a bit better, he wouldn't want it lost", she said, taunting the platinum blonde
His eyes widened and he began to sneer
"Watch what you talk, Gaunt, you don't know any-"
"Actually, I do, Lucius. I know everything that goes on here. Why do you think I know? Because my uncle told me himself. Did you know that he needs me, just like you need me? I know what you are all about. You want my influence. In fact, you need it. When he comes back you'll see me next to him, not below, not under his ranks, not his follower, but you'll soon see me as your queen. You see, next time, keep Draco from your loathsome planning. I will be planning with my uncle now, not you", she said taking a step closer to the man.
"Oh, and if you ever put a cane or hand on me again, you'll regret it", with that she left the pale aristocrat wide-eyed and agape.
She would show them who ruled here. She would have to play everything to win, but it was a bet she was willing to take.
