"BANG! BANG! BANG!" I cover my ears because the gun shots are so loud, all while trying to find my father. I bet he's in his office, he's always there working on something; even when there is an attack on the house, though I prefer to call it a mansion. I take a few turns in the different hallways knowing precisely where to go, all of the rooms in this damn mansion look alike.
I run as fast as I can because I think the intruders are after my father. Who am I kidding, of course they're after my father! He's the damn mafia king for heavon's sake! And it's my job to protect him no matter how old I am. For, at some point I will become the leader of my father's mafia and his fathers before that.
I finally reach his office door, but I hear voices from inside. That can only mean two things, either my father and the inner gang are making plans for the counter attack or the people talking are the enemies and I'm the only one left that can save my father's life. I crack the door open just a hair so I can both see and hear what they are saying without being caught.
"You know James, much like you I don't like people breaking deals with me. Especially, when they involved family issues." Said a man that looked Italian with just a hint of an accent. I had no idea what deal he spoke of and before I could find out anything more I felt someone take hold on my arm from behind me and force me through the door to where all the fun is at. YAY i'm so excited!
"Padre, ho trovato un topolino che spiava il tuo divertimento." said the guy who grabbed me though I think it's better to say boy who grabbed me. And from the look of him he must be the other guys' son. Great! Just Great! (Father, I found a little mouse spying on your fun.)
"Buon lavoro figlio. Mettila su quella sedia, penso che questa piccola chiacchierata meriti un pubblico in cattività." The guy talks in Italian to the boy holding me and points to a chair right across from my father. Not a second later I was forced in the chair and the boy is pointing a gun at my head. Much like how the man is doing to my father. (Good job son. Put her in that chair, I think this little chat deserves a captive audience.)
"Now James, why on earth would you think it would be ok to break our contract together?! We both agreed that your daughter would marry my son! How could you all of a sudden send me a letter saying you no longer wish to conjoin our familias into one?!!" My eyes widened at this and I looked at my father for confirmation about whether or not this man was telling the truth. But being the stubborn father he was he only confirmed my question with a blank stare. Though he decided that this man get an answer to his question.
"I thought it best my daughter marries someone more suitable." says my father while smirking or trying to since his beaten face it making it painful to make an expression.
"You are probably right..." Not a second later my father's face goes back to the scowl it once was and he almost looks confused that the man agreed with him. Not that I blame him I'm a bit surprised myself.
"...That's why I'm going to give her a choice."
"What makes you think any choice you give me will end up the way you want it to?" I look up at him with a scowl. I'm getting quite annoyed just sitting here and talking. This is why I never go to my fathers meetings they end up lasting for too damn long.
He looks at me surprised, I'm not entirely sure why though. Was it because I talked in the middle of his little speech? Either way I just want to crawl back into bed. Did I mention this all started at 1 AM. 1AM!!!!!! No? Well, it did, and since the person who made me wake up this late is in front of me making a speech I might as well take advantage of that and annoy him as much as a teenager possibly can.
"It seems like you have a smart mouth, much like how your mother did. I admire that in you just as I admired that in her. But as I was saying I'm giving you two choices. You can marry my son and rule over hundreds as was planned before all this chaos was started or You can watch me kill your father in front of you and you will never have to think of the mafia again. Meaning you get out of here alive and free from this life forever, becoming the many who have to bow down before your kings and queens."
"Before I give you my answer to your most "generous" choices..." I point my finger at the boy that oddly enough still is pointing his gun to my head and says "Is this the guy I have to marry?"
All I hear are his chuckling for a while like he thinks I'm being funny. I don't do funny, well, not when it comes to business.
"No. This one is not the guy you are supposed to marry. My eldest son is at my home in Russia"
"Then I have my answer. No. I will not be joining the R.I. and rule over hundreds. I would rather die than to see you or your devil of an offspring for the rest of my life, Francach na hlodaile!!"(Italian Rat)
"As you wish, Diana."
BANG!!!
OK, so that was harsh. But that's life am I right? Now those of you who enjoyed the Prologue and will continue to read this book should probably know I'm a procrastinator but I will try my darndest to write as much as I possibly can.
Do you think she should have chosen Power over freedom? Or did she make the right choice?
Have a Happy day!....Or not. It's really your choice.
