JACK

"Jack! The chief wants to see you in his office, now." Says one of the cops running up to my office cubical.

"Did he say what for?" I wonder if they finally figured out who I am. Either way I don't care because I'm getting sick of this job and I plan on quitting.

"He didn't specify, but he did sound angry. Let's hope you don't get fired, I like you!" He slaps me on the back as if we're friends.

I remove his arm roughly and walk towards the chief's office. Before I knock on the door I hear Josh's voice.

*Knock*knock*knock*

"Come in."

As I walk in I see the chief in his chair behind his giant, yet organized desk. The chair across from him spins around and Josh stands up, staring at me with what I can only imagine to be anger.

"You summoned me, chief?" I ask, honestly curious as to why Josh is scowling at me.

"Yes. Mr. Milligan it has come to my attention that you are not exactly meant for an office position. How would you like to be assigned a new position at the precinct?" I can't say I'm too surprised by this, but why now? I've only been here for about 6 months. Besides, I really don't think being on the front lines and possibly bumping into my boss would be a great thing. I wouldn't want to have any of the police knowing that I'm the reason they keep on loosing money to the mafia.

"Is there a certain position you had in mind, chief?" I ask, sitting down in the chair that Josh recently got out of.

"Yes, I want you to help my son." This is exactly what I was afraid of happening. I glance at Joshua from the corner of my eye to see him seething with anger.

"With all due respect chief, I'm not entirely sure that's a good idea. I wouldn't want to the reason Joshua murdered someone; that someone being me." The chief raises an eyebrow with curiosity.

"My son's anger is the reason I want you to help him. You are the most calm and the least social of all the people in this building. It's..." He tries to continue but is cut off by his son.

"I don't need any help! In fact I've already got a few new leads! What could he possibly do!?" I chuckle under my breath because I could do a lot of things. Things that would make him scream like a little girl. I may be the doctor but that doesn't mean I don't get to have fun in the basement once in awhile.

"You have new leads!? Wonderful! Now you can focas on those with the help of a new partner." He smiles sincerely at his son.

"But-"

"No buts! I am your chief and your father! I will not have you wandering around the city alone when you could easily be taken like Diana! Or worse killed! Now i have a few phone calls to make, so please find a way to work together and vacate the premises." He says yelling but I can tell he's exhausted.

"Fine." He growls then exits the room.

I follow him out of the room then out of even the building. He stiffens and makes a 180 degree turn to face me.

"Who's Diana?" I ask him. Even though I already know her fairly well.

"She's no one. Why are you following me?"

"So your sister is no one to you? I'm following you because we're partners now whether or not either of us likes it."

"How did you know that she's my sister?" He asks sternly. I quickly grab him by the back of his collar and drag him into an alley. "Hey! Let me go!" He struggles against my hold but failes to get free.
