𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 bustling with customers, the exhaustion of the long day catching up with me. It had finally calmed down as I was folding some clothes during the last remaining minutes of my shift.
With a friendly smile, I let out the last customers before we closed for the day. As fun as it is to work on the weekend because there is actually something to do, it was fatiguing all the same.
I follow the others to the back of the store with the registers and count the cash with my coworkers. After about fifteen minutes or so, we all stood outside and said our goodbyes.
During my trip back home, I picked up some Chinese takeout and ate with my grandfather, who then soon fell asleep. He's been really tired lately, even more than usual, but I blame the long winter season we'd just gotten out of. It's pretty warm for April, but the sun has trouble breaking through the thick clouds.
It's still early, but I don't want to work on my homework after the day I had.
I glance out of the window, the Davenport's white residence glowing in the dark moonlight. Being in the spontaneous mood I am, I grab my purse and stride over to the mansion.
It didn't take long for Tasha to open the door and smile kindly upon me. 'What a surprise,' she says and lets me inside. 'The kids didn't tell me you'd come over.'
'They don't know I would,' I answer. 'I just thought I'd stop by.'
'I'm sure they love that you stopped by. They're downstairs in the lab,' she says as she walks over the couch and opens her book, making herself cozy underneath a snuggly blanket.
'When are they not?' I retort with a chuckle.
Tasha grabs her tea and takes a sip, before letting out a chuckle too. 'You got me there.'
I wished her fun with her book and went down to the lab. When I walk in, Mr Davenport is telling Adam, Bree and Chase about a particle collider that they need to fix.
Chase had just noticed me, as I was blinded by a light that burned worse than the sun. Once the light slowly died, I could see a tall guy in an oddly looking chair. There's something so familiar about him.
He shoots up from his chair, startling me. I wanted to hold onto Chase's hand for comfort, but couldn't. Adam had jumped into Chase's arms with a loud scream, mirroring Chase's own scream in fright.
'How heroic,' I grin underneath my breath.
Mr Davenport swallows and tries to keep his composure. 'Don't worry guys. It's probably just the cable guy?' he says, even questioning himself.
'I can't believe it actually worked!' the guy beams and analyzes his limbs. 'It's me, Big-D. It's Leo from seven years in the future.'
My mouth falls open in an instant. That is future Leo?? From the actual future? I am completely baffled. As weird as this family is and so full of surprises, I never in a million years saw this happen.
'Wait a minute,' Leo says and marches over to the guy. 'If this is actually me, then you should know the handshake I invented for when I will become a spy.' Leo and that guy eye each other, before doing some odd handshake, but I get distracted by Chase finally dropping Adam onto the ground.
There is something about Chase in his mission suite. The grey swirled together in red, the fabric strung so tightly around his muscles. His hair slicked back as though he suddenly worked in a high-functioning office. It was difficult not to end up staring at him.
