Chapter 4

I wake up to see its no longer raining and the sun is out. I put on my now dry clothes as well as my shoes. I look at Aiden whos now going through his backpack. I shake my head. How stupid of me for thinking we could actually be more than friends. I stand outside the hut waiting for him. Go with him, save the world again and then part ways I think to myself. He comes outside and signals me to follow him. "After this we can go back to avoiding each other." He turns around and looks at me as I pass him. "Jess, don't be like that." I stop. "Like what? Like what Aiden? I'm not Maya, you can't just boss me around and play with my feelings." I storm up the mountain before turning around. "And you know what. It was you. You were the guy I so desperately tried to get attention from. But whenever I did we'd argue or Maya would interfere. She knew that I liked you, she did everything she could to take your attention from me. And what hurt me the most was seeing you two date. You giving her love and attention I wanted. But when i'm just getting over you, you decide to come back. What happened to Maya?" I look at him his mouth slightly parted in surprise. "The group parted and we broke up. If you liked me why didn't you say anything?" He tries to reach for my hand. I move back. "Because I knew you wouldn't like me back. Just because you and Jesse didn't get along didn't mean you had to be mean to me." I turn around and continue walking up the hill. I wipe away the tears that I didn't know that were on my face. I feel him grab my hand. He spins me around. I open my mouth to speak but he puts a finger to my lips telling me to shush. "Jessica, I've loved you for as long as I can remember. My reason to dating Maya was to try to forget about you. But that only made me want you more. I hated Jesse because I told him I wanted to date you. He said that im not good enough for you. That caused us to always bicker and fight. And the main reason I always wanted to outshine him. Jess.....I love you, I've always loved you." He pulls me in for a kiss. I try to fight back my feelings but all the love I had just came rushing back. I wrap my arms around his neck as he pulls me closer. We part for air but still touching noses. I smile then realization hits me. I push him away. "How dare you!" I grab a tree branch ready to hit him, when it starts lighting. My hair starts to rise and I get tackled to the ground by Aiden. Lightning strikes where i just was. Me and Aiden tumble off of the clift and onto a ledge. Aiden was holding me close and protecting my head. I pushed him off of me. As much as I didn't want to I did. "I didn't need your help." I stand up and brush myself off. "Fine, next time your close to death I won't help." I flick up the middle finger at him. He huffs his breath and mumbles something. I look around trying to see a way down. The only way out is through this cave. I signal for him to follow. He leads the way as I follow him deeper into the cave. "Jess, do you hear that?" We look around as a we hear cracking. We run back out of the cave. "Do you think we can build down?" I look in my inventory and discover I only have 15 blocks. "This mountain is way longer than 15 blocks. I look into the distance when my eyes spot something. I nudge Aiden. "Hey isn't that?" He nods. We turn pale when we realize thats the source of the cracking. "Aiden, I thought you said he wasn't coming till a later date." He gulps. "Give me your blocks, we have to go....NOW!" He quickly builds up the mountain. Both of us sharing the same square. After we make it back on the mountain we run down as fast as we can. We stop when we thought we were at a far away distance from him. "What do we do?" We sit down on a fallen tree to catch our breath. We hear a big crack and a low laugh fills the air. I scoot in closer to him, scared like. I feel eyes on me. "Uh Aiden..... do you get the feeling were being watched." He nods. I see the color leave his face. Then I notice why. I gulp as I see bright white eyes looking directly at me. "Aiden?" We share stares until his eyes disappear. "We're not safe, you can sleep for a couple hours. Ill stay up and keep watch." After 5 minutes of convincing Aiden to let me look out. Im terrified but I know I have to stay up, our lives depend on it. I hear rustling in a nearby bush. My heart sinks to my feet as I lock eyes with him. "Well, well, well." He emerges from the bush. I try to run and wake up Aiden but he stops me in my tracks. "Let me go!" He chuckles. "You look more beautiful up close, tell me how do you do it?" I sigh and give up. "I thought you would've put up more of a fight." I roll my eyes. "Not much of a fight when I'm temporarily paralyzed neck down." He growls at my sarcastic remark. "Hmm, very well then." He snaps his fingers and I fall to the ground. I groan in pain as I fall on my chest. Thankful I wore my armor. I look at him with utter disgust. "Well miss Jessica I hope we can meet again." Then he disappeared. I screamed as I heard the alarm going off for me to wake Aiden. He sits up rubbing his eyes and looks at me. "What happened to you? You look like you saw a ghost. And your pale?" I get up and pat myself down, getting the dirt and dust off me. I lay on the makeshift bed and fail at falling to sleep. "Jess you alright? I've been watching you for about an hour now and you look like your having problems sleeping. You know what come here." He pats a spot in the grass next to himself and the fire. I sit next to him, instantly feeling the warmth from the fire. He start to sing softly. "I never knew you could sing." He laughs. "That's because we were always busy fighting." He starts to sing again, I scoot closer to him and lean on his shoulder. He wraps the blanket around me and put he arm around my shoulder pulling me closer. I close my eyes listening to the sweet sound coming from his mouth. Last thing I remember is him kissing my forehead.
