Today looked to be a pretty busy day as Ryan and I both had doctor appointments scheduled. Ryan had a follow up MRI scheduled prior to his visit with a neurologist that we were told specialized in traumatic brain injuries. I hoped I would be done with my own appointment in time to be there for the neurologist appointment. I was anxious to hear how his scans looked and I also had a few questions to ask myself.

"We need to get going soon. We still have to drop Makenna off with my mom." I reminded Ryan, as he lingered over breakfast."

"Sorry. Give me five minutes then we can leave." He flashed me his signature smile, and I felt those butterflies again.

Things had been going really well between us. The few sweet kisses, him holding me at night, had me sleeping much better. He was also having little flashes of memory. Small things that I didn't want to call attention to, but they gave me hope that a breakthrough might not be too far off. It started when he began calling Makenna princess. He also remembered a post break up confrontation with Lauren, that led to him throwing a framed picture of them across the room. I admittedly was a little disappointed that these little snippets of memory were not about me, even though I was there, I tried not to dwell on it, and just be grateful that he was remembering something.

"I'm going to drop you off for the MRI, then I have to get to an appointment for myself. I should be done by the time you see the neurologist." I explained, after pulling out of the driveway and heading to my mom and dad's house.

"I didn't realize you were seeing a doctor too. Are you alright?" Ryan asked me.

"Just a check up." I replied. It wasn't entirely untrue. It was a check up, but it was to make sure that everything was okay following the miscarriage. No need to go into detail, just let him think it was a regular annual visit.

"Everything looks good Olivia. I heard about your husband. How is he doing?" Dr. Edwards asked me after she finished her exam.

Dr. Edwards had been my OBGYN since I had moved back to the area three years ago. She was one of my fathers colleagues. She was there during my first miscarriage, and she also had delivered Makenna.

"He's home and recovering." I replied, sounding like my PR self.

"I'm glad to hear that. I saw the accident, and it was very scary. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been for you, especially dealing with a miscarriage during everything else. Physically, everything looks good with you, although I see you've lost some weight. That could be due to stress. How are you dealing emotionally?"

I was not prepared to deal with this. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay following the miscarriage, I didn't expect to be asked how I was doing mentally. "I'm doing much better." I said, but didn't elaborate further.

"Sleeping okay? Eating?" Dr. Edwards pressed further.

"Yep. Sleeping and eating great." Not a complete lie. I was sleeping better since Ryan started holding me at night.

"Good. If you need anything, please call me. I would be happy to set up any referrals, or if you need any type of sleep aid..."

"I'm fine Dr. Edwards, thank you. I really need to get going though. Ryan has an appointment I would like to be there for."

"Of course. Good luck, and if you need anything at all.."

"Thank you. I appreciate it." I said, and she left the room. I quickly dressed, anxious to get to Ryan's appointment, which was in the same building, just a different floor of this large, multi practice physician complex.
