Third Pov
On the twelfth hour of the first day of October 1989, forty-three women around the world gave birth.
This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began.
Sir Reginal Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of the children as possible.
.
He got seven of them- plus one more.
.
.
.
Seven of the kids had been successfully adopted by Sir Reginal Hargreeves, while the eighth was taken in. She was a part of the family, but not at the same time.
It was a recurring question that all the Hargreeves children had. It was obvious that Carolina Rose, the outlier of the family, was Reginald's favourite. So why didn't he adopt her? Why keep her with them?
Not only that but for some reason, Carolina was the one person- well, child- that Reginald left alone. She didn't have a strict study or training regimen like the others. She didn't have all these rules and schedules that the others had to obey. Unlike them, she was free to roam the house and do what she wanted whenever she wanted with whomever she wanted.
In most cases like this, where the child is left alone without proper guidance, the child would grow up to be stuck-up, rude, and arrogant who can't tell what's right from wrong.
But that wasn't the case with Carolina.
Being free didn't mean that she was loved. Growing up, she had a hole in her heart- a hole that she was willing to do anything to fill and keep it filled.
And now, thirty years later, Sir Reginald Hargreeves was dead.
--- Five Pov ---
A clearly modern fire extinguisher hit Lina in the stomach as it flew out of the temporal wormhole I had opened in front of us. She doubled over, clutching her stomach with a winded look on her face. Usually, I would've been all over her, asking if she was all right. But I had to focus.
I pushed myself against the wormhole, feeling it resist me.
I could almost hear a "pop" noise like you would in animations and movies as Lina tackled me from behind, giving the two of us enough momentum to fall through the portal and onto the cold, wet ground. And as we got up shakily, five grown men and woman walked towards us with confusion and shock written all over their faces.
"Does anyone else see little Number Five and Ro-ro, or is that just me?" A tall, lanky male with dark circles under his eyes (whom I could tell was Klaus) spoke.
"Five, you've done it again," Lina grumbled quietly beside me, pulling dead leaves out of her black hair.
I looked at her much smaller, childish form, then at myself, who was clad in a very big and loose-fitting suit. The very suit that had been a bit tight for me just a minute ago.
"Shit," I said to myself, realizing that I'd gotten the equation wrong. ...Again.
Allison, Klaus, Luthor, Diego, and Vanya all stared at us as though they'd seen a ghost. Ignoring their surprised gaze, I walked towards the kitchen where I could make myself and Lina some food.
"I'm going to go get changed. There's no way that I'm going to walk around in... this." Lina said, gesturing to her 1960s dress that was now reaching down to her ankles.
"You look very cute in that oversized suit, though. Make me a grilled cheese- I'll be right there, okay?" She continued, planting a kiss on my cheek before hurrying over to her room.
The others threw question after question at me as I moved and spatial jumped all over the kitchen, making sandwiches. Peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich for me, and grilled cheese for Lina... I thought to myself, before asking questions of my own.
"So, what's the date, exactly?" I questioned to no one in particular.
"The twenty-fourth," Vanya answered.
"Of what?" Lina asked, walking into the kitchen in her Umbrella Academy suit.
"March."
"Good," I said, before realizing that Lina was wearing her Academy uniform- for the first time in about fifty years.
Seeing her wearing the uniform brought some very old memories back, making me freeze in my spot for a second. She tied half of her hair up, snickering at my blatant staring.
"I know, you probably miss my older form. But it's better than getting older, so I have no complaints. Plus, this was the only thing in the closet. It's probably the same case for you, too. Thanks for the grilled cheese." Lina said, taking the grilled cheese from my hands.
"So... are you two like... a thing, now?" Diego asked, pointing at the two of us with a disoriented look on his face.
"Ro-ro, weren't you taken away by your birth mother? How'd you even meet up with Five?" Luthor inquired.
"Yes, we are a thing. As a matter of fact, we've been married for... almost fifty years now." I clarified, biting into my sandwich.
"Wait, what?"
